Buying a used/refurb MBP - what do I need to know about this NVIDIA graphics problem?

I read the thread about the NVIDIA GPU problem. I am planning to buy a used/refurb MacBook Pro 13" in the next few weeks. What do I need to know? Will my machine definitely have this faulty component? What will Apple do if it fails?

Are you talking about this problem?
MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues
It only affects MBPs from before 10/2008, thus not a 13" MBP, since they came to be only in 2009.
