I currently have a macbook pro early 2011 and its on its last legs. Im currently a freshman majoring in computer science and definitely need a new laptop. I was looking at either the 2015 MBP or the base 2016 macbook pro. I do not know which one to get, if I am trying to get the best computer for the price which one should I get. I want it to last long as well.

If money is an issue, I would just get a refurb 2015 model. That will last you a good long time.

I'm second on refurb 2015s. Or wait a little for the Black Friday sale. There was a huge sale at BH Photos a week ago. I saw iMacs on sale up to $900 off, last year model. I don't remember seeing MacBooks. But I do expect similar sell as the late 2016s are coming out.

Oooh a CS major wanting a Mac??? Whattttt.

I'd say save some money and go with a 2015. I just don't see anything attractive about the base 2016 except maybe the size.

if i got the 2015 i would get a refrerbished one from apple for $1,100 with 8GB of 1866MHz LPDDR3 onboard memory and 128GB PCIe-based flash storage. Is this still worth getting rather then 2016 base

The base 2016 model is on sale for $1299 at micro center and best buy will price match them if micro center does not have them.

I mean, if you can survive on 128GB of storage, more power to you. But I would look for a deal in the next month on a 2015 13" with the 256GB SSD. I would imagine you could find one at or close to the $1,100 mark.
