or sit there and play the waiting game forever haha. wait for leopard, then hmmm should i wait for new chipsets too> etc etc
Heh. Very true. Last summer I had the money to buy a new iMac. Then news of updated Core 2 Duo iMacs started to surface, but when they were released I decided those models were not the ones I had been waiting for (although the 24" did get me wanting one quite badly back then). So I decided to wait until MWSF, because surely new models would come out by then. Well, we all know what happened then. Let's not open that fresh wound again, shall we? So here I am, browsing discussions and reading things like new iMacs with the Santa Rosa chipsets by summer 2007. If that turns out to be true, that will be a whole year from when I first got ready to buy one. A YEAR LATER! So when and if a new iMac with a decent CPU and GPU update comes out (with Leopard, of course, or at least with a free upgrade to Leopard included) then I'll just go ahead and buy it. Ignorance is indeed a bliss. Having read things about the 45nm chip technology and 4- and 8-core processors coming in late 2007 or early 2008 got me doubting about buying this year again. But no, the rumours won't get me waiting any longer this time... I hope.

Apple's move to OSX caught my eye since I was so into UNIX back then. I didn't really yearn for a Mac until the G5 iMacs came out. I told myself that that was my next computer. I started hearing about noise issues and I learned about revision A Macs. I waited for the next revision.

The next revisions came out but I didn't have the cash so I waited for some extended no interest plans from CompUSA. The long term no interest plan I was hoping for never materialized and as I waited, I then find out about the move to Intel.

For longevity of investment and the possibility of installing other OS's, I decide I want to get an Intel version but now I have to wait until revision B's came out. Revision B's come out but I was hearing about the Core 2 Duo's and 64-bit so I wait some more. C2D's are released and now I wait for my extended no interest plans to materialize. One comes up but it is too close to this past MacWorld so I don't pull the trigger.

Nothing happens to the iMacs during MacWorld so I decide I'm going for it. I didn't get the long term interest free plan I wanted (a year shorter than what I wanted) but it doesn't really matter, I'm having a blast with my 20" iMac C2D. Now I'll have to shell out for Leopard upgrade and iWork 06 and 07 but again, it doesn't matter, I'm having a blast.

Long story short: if you need it now get it now, if not, wait, BUT don't wait too long, you're missing out on a lot of fun.

I could not wait

I waited ever since November hoping for reductions or announcements at MacWorld. Now there is a recommendation on macrumors not to buy. I DONT CARE. The release in September 2006 saw a real hike in RAM, HDD, processor and a drop in price. That was the big one. This time, Leopard and a small speed step or graphic card improvement. As a windows user who knows to wait for SP2 I am not going to lose sleep.

I have a 20inch iMAC basic model and it is beautiful. A work of art. A mature, refined HW and SW. Buy now, wait til the spring, either way 4 years later it won't make a whole lot of difference. Bad luck on the Macbook, no-one spotted that.
