iPad Air Buying an iPad Air M1 as a gift.....for someone in the UK

sooo what would be the best course of action? Buying it in the US and shipping it to the UK or shipping directly from Apple?
or it doesn't matter?

Buy in UK, that way they’ll have Consumer Law coverage.

If you buy it in the US and ship it to the UK, UK Customs will confiscate the iPad and send the recipient a bill for around $200.

If the recipient pays the bill, they get the iPad. If not, it will be destroyed.

Customs don’t inspect every package but anything bigger than en envelope will probably be checked.
