I would go with the 9.7" iPad Pro hands down. The iPad Pro has multitasking which is really nice. It has 4 speakers and is a lot louder than the iPad Air 2 and no speaker vibration. It also has a fully laminated display with the antireflective coating. Just those features alone make it worth the upgrade. Never mind all the other stuff like upgraded A9X, 12 meg camera, True Tone flash, Live Photos, 4K video recording, Apple Pencil and smart connector.

I've owned iPads since the first one on day one and never had one stolen. If I bought all cellular models just to track them down if they got stolen, the extra $130 per iPad and 4+ years of service would have cost me way more than having to replace one. Sure, T-Mobile has 200 MB/month for free now, but that wasn't always offered.

I buy cellular iPads now because I have unlimited data for them, but I would never spend the extra $130 just to track it down if it got stolen, especially since your chances are still slim you'll get it back.

The only cellular device I ever regretted buying was the play station vita., I have never regretted buying a cellular ipad. I apologize if its just better. We had some one a few weeks ago lose their ipad at the local park. They had to post on next door and post signs to get it back. I havent been using the cellular ipad as much lately, but t-mobile is basically giving me 35 gigs a month for 35 dollars with their binge on programs. Thats the next best thing to a $3000 AT&T unlimited ipad sim being sold on ebay

If you lose your ipad at the park, it has to be in range of wifi to be located. And then its just a best guess based on crowd sourced wifi. If you lose your cellular ipad at the park, you will get it back a lot faster.

People will gladly spend $100 for more memory. People will gladly pay $100 for apple care. But suggest them to get cellular, and they all get bent out of shape like you. I just don't get it.

$130 is not much. How much is the cellular option costing you on your iPhone? $3000 for 2 years??? Why not just tell people to get an iPod touch?

Did you hear about the 4 guys that robbed t-mobile at gun point for iPads on Apr 10, 2016 of their iPads?? Thanks to the cellular option, they were all arrested a few blocks away

Just because you spend the $130 doesnt mean you have to actually activate service.

Forum people will go on a rampage and lecture people to lock their iPhone, and use a PIN number and use fingerprints and tell them about find my iPhone on their $949 iPhone with its $120 phone plan. But suggest someone spend $649 on an iPad with a $35 or less plan (often $10 extra per line) and you get crucified on Mac rumors
[doublepost=1466972367][/doublepost]Microsoft no longer sells lte enabled surfaces
Google promised free Verizon with Chromebook but there is only one company left making them
The play station vita was locked to AT&T and they refuse to unlock it, despite its no longer being manufactured
Asus made the z8 a Verizon exclusive with only 4 channels
Amazon Made you choose between AT&T and Verizon Kindle Fire tablets, and stopped making them

Apple is the only company making cellular enabled tablets with universal cellular capabilities. And that just gets people irate because they don't want to spend $130 extra. And they all get on the soap box like Doctor Quincy,. I'm sure if apple allowed AT&T to print their Death Star on the back of the ipad and remove support for 15 bands , they would knock off $130

Oh boy. Here we go.

No mention of the actual plan being cheaper or AT&T's superior coverage.

Don't leave your iPad at the park. I can understand someone stealing it from you, but don't be so irresponsible with your valuables.

I'm pretty sure I just said I buy cellular iPads now. Yep, you even quoted it. I see the appeal in unlimited data everywhere I go without having to tether, and being able to track my iPad is a nice bonus, but I would never pay $130 extra just to track my iPad on the off chance someone stole it.

I also don't recommend Apple Care.

Besides my point one quote up:

1. I take my iPhone with me everywhere I go. I need service, not just the ability to track my phone in case I leave it behind.

2. My iPhone has much better specs than the current gen iPod touch. The Wi-Fi iPad has the same specs as the cellular model (besides cellular and GPS obviously).

3. My phone bill is $0/month. Over two years, that winds up being $0 if I did the math correctly. Where did $3000 come from?

Did you hear about the 4 guys that robbed t-mobile at gun point for iPads on Apr 10, 2016 of their iPads?? Thanks to the cellular option, they were all arrested a few blocks away
Did you hear about the guy who tracked his iPhone to the thief's house who denied having it, then called the police who said they couldn't really do anything about it?

Just because you spend the $130 doesnt mean you have to actually activate service.
Why would you pay $130 extra for something to not even use it?

I would say go with the pro the extra cost is worth it for the four speakers alone and the better cameras if you're going to use them having the four speakers is amazing even though I am using the 12.9 model I've tried the 9.7 Pro speakers and they're just as good so if you're going to use it for audio or video media content get the pro some of the other things like true tone are gimmicky unless you're going to do a lot of documents and web browsing most artists say if you're going to use it for drawing you should turn true tone off to get the best quality drawings/paintings

I'd hardly call True Tone a gimmick. The screen would be my main reason for purchasing the iPad Pro 9.7.

I found a good deal on all LTE models, and plan on buying one tomorrow. That being said, I'm torn between the Air 2 and the 9.7" pro.

Main uses will be internet browsing, iMessage, media (music, videos, YouTube) and some gaming.

The pencil appeals to me and I may use it a bit, but when I had a 12.9" Pro I didn't use it as much as anticipated. The Smart Keyboard doesn't appeal to me, as most typing is done on my MBP.

Is the performance boost of the Pro worth it over the Air 2, which is significantly cheaper, even in 64GB?

I went with the Pro. For me the difference was only $100, with the student coupon from Best Buy. It was also 16 vs 32GB, so the true difference was less than $100.

I went from air ipad 2, I just do not see video on the iPad because I prefer assisstir on TV, I'll just surf the interent and view PDF files then ess price difference will guard when launching an Ipad with 3dtouch
Ipad Air 2 will take the IOS 10 well

As a fellow game player, if that's a primary use for the iPad, there's no way you're getting by on 16GB and probably not 32gb either. Hearthstone alone takes more than a gig (1.5, I think), Crazy Taxi 600 megs etc. I was definitely out of space on my 32gb iPad, almost entirely games, and I didn't really enjoy the thought of uninstalling games.

So for me, the $279/479 options shouldn't be considered. 16gb is definitely out. 32, I'm pretty sure you'll be hitting that cap sooner than later. I can't speak to performance, but I'd definitely stop thinking about the smaller models for storage.

This is what you're looking at:
Pricing on Air 2:
$379 - 64GB

Pricing on Pro 9.7":
$629 - 128GB

That's not really special pricing. That's what Verizon regularly offers to keep you on a 2-year contract.
Not always. Sometimes, their discount is just $100. Granted, this promotion has been going on for quite a while (since Mother's Day, iirc).
