Thank you all for your post. I have thought about it and based on the experiences mentioned here I decided to order directly from Apple. I could have walked out of the store with it today if I bought it from our local Target, but I thought that ordering from Apple directly would be better.

In addition, I was able to have my iPad laser engraved which is a nice plus.

Thanks again for all the input, the people on this forum are great and provide excellent advice and council.

I do have one off the topic question.

When I order an Apple produce, do I have to purchase the Apple Care at the same time I purchase the product? Or can i purchase it anytime before the manufacture warranty runs out?

Thanks again.

No Apple don't care where you bought it from. Any warranty issues will be dealt with by Apple. If you need a replacement, Apple will do so, no questions asked.

I don't tend to buy my stuff from Apple anymore because there are better deals with other retailers. For example I recently bought an iPad Air from another retailer because they were offering a 3 year warranty instead of the 1 year one you get if you buy from Apple.

I like to buy directly through Apple because of their hassle free return/exchange policy. Some other retailers make a big fuss when you need to bring a product back, even if there's something wrong with it. I live close enough to an Apple Store that there's no reason not to go there, especially since they will price match local competitors.

+1 for Best Buy Open Box (even though its irrelevant for OP at this point, still throwing it out there. Have always saved a ton & had good experiences).

Thanks everyone!!! After reading and thinking about all the advice and experiences listed on this thread, I decided to buy directly from Apple.

I received my iPad yesterday and love it!! I added the free laser ingraining which was a plus for me. Now I have an iPad with my name on it so the rest of the family knows that it is MINE!!!

Thanks again everyone, your opinion and advice was very valuable. :):apple:

Enjoy your new iPad! Regarding Apple Care, you must add it within 30 days of purchase for iPads.

Thanks!! thought about the Apple Care. I decided to not add it, if I drop my iPad I would not expect any retailer to fix it for me, that is my fault. As far as the hardware, I have the 1 year from the manufacture. If it dies after the one year it would be worth it to me to buy a new one. The 16G wi-fi models (which I bought) are cheep enough to take the risk.

I have three other Apple products and have the best of luck and never had to use the Apple Care. Apple makes a superior product to begin with so the extended warranty for me is something that I usually only get when I get an iMac or a MacBook Pro.

I love the iPad, the news version is great!!!

Hi,
I will be travelling to US next month for a week and I plan to buy rMBP 15'/16/512 Model.

I see that price of same model on Amazon is like $140 less than from apple. Now my question is that if I go to apple store and quote them the Amazon's price, will they do a price match or is it like it depends on store to store to do a price match or not.

I will like to buy it from apple store directly so that I can test for any hardware or other issue at store only and if needed in my next 1 week of US stay, I can exchange it for any fault.

Thanks

I'll buy from MacMall or Mac Connection if the price is right.

And there's a tiny independent store in my local Ralph's shopping center that sells mostly Apple products. They're a great source of accessories, because they buy them in bulk packaging and sell them for less. For example, mice, trackpads, etc. are priced at $50 instead of $70.

Other than that, I either buy from the Apple Store (accessories) or online from Apple (bigger stuff). I'd rather just go to my door rather than to the mall. But if I need something right away or I'm already at the mall, I'll pick up some little accessory that I need. Ditto with Fry's.

I've never seen Apple Store do a price match. In fact, those stores that usually do accept price matches rarely match those of an online retailer.

That said, if you're looking to save a bit, are you going to visit a city with a major university? Generally, university bookstores sell their wares a bit cheaper ($100 or so on laptops) and don't even check to see if you're a student or teacher.

Apple does give an Education discount, You have to prove that you are either an educator or a student going to school. I am a adult student seeking a master's in astrophysics. I had to prove my enrollment I got a couple hundred off a new MacBook Pro and I think $60 or so off the Apple Care. All in all, I think I got somewhere around $280.00 off my total purchase at the Apple Store. that is the only discount that I think Apple offers. I could be wrong though.
