First time watch buyer and wondering if Apple Care is worth it? I always buy it for iMac's & Macbooks but not sure on this.

For those with experience what do you think?

I’ve toke Apple care for each of my watches and never regretted it. For a low fee (65 EUR in my country), you can get a brand new Apple watch as replacement of your damaged one, whatever the reason of the damage. And this twice in the two years of the enhanced warranty period.
I used it several times for broken screens
To me definitely worth it.

For me, for the AW, definitely yes and even more so for the Alu one.
I do have AC for my S4 SS and haven’t used it, but do not regret it either

Whatever you do, don't buy a watch before Tuesday. Apple may introduce new watches next week. I would buy AppleCare for the watch even though my series 3 is nearing 3 years old and has been totally fine and is undamaged.

Definitely. And the cost can actually exceed what the watch is worth depending on the damage to the watch itself, so if you’re someone that it’s ‘hard’ on watches or has those accidents, it almost necessary.

Take the AppleCare+ and enjoy the watch until it's depreciated or baby it all the time wondering if you are going to have shell out 1/2 price+ for a cracked screen if you do it.. and you might not ever because you are spending all the time worrying about the screen rather than living.

p.s. probably still never happen but at least you get on with life

It's a personal risk assessment. It depends on how much you spend. If you're buying the Series 3 for $200, maybe you're ok having the risk. If you're buying the latest model at $400+, you may or may not be ok if something happened.

I didn't buy Apple Care for my Series 3 a couple of years ago and it's weathered my clumsiness very well. I typically walk too close to walls and other objects that may scratch the bezel or screen, but it's held up really well.

My personal take on the Apple Watch is that it is technology and it will be obsolete at some not too distant point. I don't consider it attractive as an 'investment'. Others definitely disagree with me.

I have never bother with other Apple products in the past but I did why I bought my S4.
as said above I figured the risks from accidental damage was so much more of a risk.

Definitely, had mine for about 2 months, then dropped it on the tile floor of my bathroom, and shattered the screen. Was a far sight cheaper getting the screen replaced with AppleCare than it would have had I not.

Buy insurance if you can't math.

No company, especially not in consumer electronics, and especially so Apple, sells something at a loss. What that means is for AC to be a win for you it would have to pay out more in repairs / replacements than its cost. It doesn't, but if by some chance it did, no one here could possibly know that it does.

So, if you want to spent a dollar to put an extra 50 cents, or whatever their profit is, in Apple's wallet, just because, by all means go for it.

PS: I've seen extended warranty margins, granted a long time ago, and the actual payout on them then was more like 20 cents on each dollar spent by a customer.

I wear AWs since 2016 (AW2 before and AW4 now, both aluminum), I never bought Apple Care+ and never had a single problem with my watches.

However now that I’m likely to move to AW6 I would definitely considering this extended coverage: watches are always exposed to damages and probably I have just been very lucky so far.

Yes, buy it. My AW 4 has had horrendous battery life the entire time I’ve had it and if I had the AppleCare I could have probably gotten a replacement rather than the “oh well” response I got on my multiple visits to have it looked over.

At one point I might've said no but considering I just cracked the screen on my AW6, yes.

Worse part is I got it as a test to see if it could get me off my Garmin. I wore it maybe 7-8 times and it was on my desk the rest of the time. At some point it must've dropped or something, not even sure how it happened.

I do have AC+ on this one - first time I've bought it in 4 AW's.

Is that aluminum (ion-x glass), or stainless steel or titanium (sapphire)?

Aluminum (I like the Nike faces).

I wore my 1st one AW1 for almost 1.5yrs and never a single problem. AW4 I used just a thin film screen protector and was fine. AW5 was fine. No AC+ on any of them.

This one, sits on a table 85% of it's life so far, drops one time (not even sure when) and the screen cracked. Go figure.

Normally I advise against getting AppleCare+ because it's pretty expensive. However, given how cheap it is and how hard (re: impossible for a normal person) to fix the Apple Watch is I'd say go for it.

That’s a big part of it, is that also the Apple Watch is a very susceptible device to break with the display mainly, but there are no parts available where they can be fixed by the consumer, let alone even third-party repair mainly can’t touch the Apple Watch, as they don’t have a training or availability to Apples OEM parts.
