Hi,

Long story short - I forgot to buy AC+ when i bought my 6. It's been 20 days since I bought it.

According to this document (see below) I have 60 days to buy it. I plan on driving to the Apple Store tomorrow. My question is do I need to book a genius appointment or do I just ask any sales person about buying AC+ for my iPhone.

I will bring my iPhone and receipt with me obviously.

Will they open up my iPhone or just run a remote diagnostic at the store? Thanks!

Important Notes

Purchase AppleCare+ with your new iPhone. Or buy it within 60 days of your iPhone purchase:

At an Apple Retail Store (inspection of iPhone and proof of purchase are required)
OR call (800) 263-3394 (requires you to run a remote diagnostic and provide proof of purchase)
AppleCare+ must be purchased within 60 days of the date you bought your new iPhone. If you did not purchase AppleCare+ with your iPhone, you may purchase it at an Apple Retail Store or by calling the AppleCare Contact Center. To buy AppleCare+ at an Apple Retail Store, a Specialist will first need to verify your iPhone purchase date and confirm that your iPhone has no pre-existing damage. Find an Apple Retail Store. To buy AppleCare+ from the AppleCare Contact Center, you will be required to verify your purchase date and run a diagnostic to confirm that your iPhone has no pre-existing damage.

I would say that, to save yourself any aggravation and wasted time, book a Genius appointment. If it turns out you need one, your time won't be wasted. And if you don't need one, well, some of their time might be wasted, but they're on the clock anyway.

Seconded.

If I ever want to do anything other than buy a brand new product that doesn't involve anything that I currently own being brought in I always set up an appointment. Especially at this time of year.

FYI to the OP you can also do this over the phone. I believe they have you plug into a conouter and run a diagnostic remotely.

I bought AC+ over the phone about a week after purchase. Didn't have to plug my phone in to anything. Was fast and easy.

just do it over the phone. they gave me a link to put into safari which sent them a diagnostic log and that was it. only took a few mins all together

When I bought my 5S, I had 2 weeks to purchase Apple Care. I just went up to the counter and bought it without an appt. Then, the next day, I returned it. It was 14-days back then. 60 days is a good time frame to decide. I purchased Apple Care this time for the 6+.

you can call apple and they will run a diagnostics test on your phone, once they confirm nothing is wrong with the phone they'll allow you to purchase over the phone without you going to store.

Just call in. They use to make you go in store if you lived within 50 miles of a store, but that is not the case anymore.

I recently bought an iphone and ipad and did it over the phone. They did not make me run any test prior to approving the AC+, granted it was the same day I purchased the device.

If you go in store, 100% book an appointment. The apple stores are a nightmare this time of the year. You may not be able to get an appointment for the next several days.

I bought my iPhone in November and just got AppleCare+ on Sunday. I didn't book any appointments. I just asked the salesperson, and he sent me over to the person who did the inspection and sold me the plan. It took about 5 minutes. I had my receipt with me but didn't need it. All he needed to do was look up the serial number.

No Genius Bar appt needed. Although the specialist might say hold on and ask a tech to check the phone quick. But they should know how to do it themselves

I purchased AC after my initial phone purchase. I didn't make an appointment. They didn't say anything to me and they didn't seem to mind helping me with it. It only took a minute.

Buying AppleCare+ for iPhone 6

I know this thread is a little old but I just purchased AppleCare Plus over the phone and I was not asked to provide proof of purchase. Does apple send a follow up email asking to send it in?
