I always have a case on my phone and am tired of not being able to appreciate the aesthetics of an iPhone. That being said I never buy AppleCare for my phones and am thinking of doing it time around and going case-less. Just interested to know or hear feedback and thoughts of members that do this same exact thing or just in general.

Thanks in advance!!!!

I've been case-less since the day I got my OG iPhone SE and it's still pristine. Plan to do the same thing when I eventually get a Mini. Although I do use tempered glass screen protectors as scratches on a screen really bother me.

It feels so good to hold a phone in your hand without a case, although you need to be a bit more careful!

FWIW I have gone case less since the first smartphone. In that time I dropped and shattered 2 screens, which cost me $400 total to replace (I think) with the insurance plans. I probably would have spent 200 on cases during that time so it probably cost me $200 bucks total. All in all I think it's worth it, but that's just my opinion :)

Prior to IUP, I have always purchased AC with my phones since the beginning. I’m so happy that Apple brought back the squared edges, that I’m looking forward to going back to not using a case. I will use a screen protector though. Just waiting for the 12PM pre-orders to open up.

edited: I’ve had to use AC twice, both for a shattered or cracked screen.

I believe AC+ doesn't cover cosmetic damages.

I always get AppleCare and a case. I thought about going without a case this year. My fear is that I’d drop the phone then have to go to the Apple store. I really don’t want to go anywhere indoors if I can avoid it. So I’m getting a case. But I totally understand wanting to reduce the bulk of a case.

I've had most iterations of the iPhone. Always had a case and a screen protector. Just last year, decided that, since I had hardly ever dropped my phone, I no longer needed a screen protector. Still kept the case to protect the back glass (which I understand, is more expensive to replace). This is all without any insurance/AppleCare.

This year, for the iPhone 12 Pro, I've decided to fully take the plunge and go caseless and protector-less. Of course, I'm hedging my bet and bought an Upsie policy at a little under $120. I figure I usually spend at least half that on various cases and protectors, and it's worth the additional cost to go without protection.

Having said that, I'll probably get a case for occasional use for when I know the phone may be in more danger (outdoor activities, etc.)

I used to just go with films on front and back for scratch protection, as I’m careful about not dropping my phone. But now I have a toddler who is quite a bit less careful, so it’s a case for me. 😂

Same. All this time at home, I even took the case off for awhile since I wasn't going anywhere, but the roundness of the Xs Max makes it soap bar slippery. I gave up and put the yellowing clear rubber case back on it. I'd love to go caseless with the new one, I'm looking at bumper style cases to maybe rock the old iPhone 4 "antennagate bumper" look.

I had a case on my phone and found a new ding on the back glass.. bummer. I do work with metal and my phone is always in my pocket so they don’t have an easy life.

If you have a scratched screen or phone you can simply drop it so the screen cracks if you really wanted it replaced
Yes, you can abuse it and do that. Now you’re left with a new screen but scratched up frame. There are many ways to abuse it and everyone who buys these kinds of policies end up paying for it. At least they have deductibles to reduce frivolous claims.

I have AppleCare for my peace of mind. I use a case so that when I drop my phone onto my tile floors or onto asphalt (and I will) I won't have to be without it for days and days while I send it off for repairs. This strategy works for me.

Haven’t used a case on all my iPhones (6, 6SP, 7P, X, XSM, 11PM). Haven’t broken a screen but I’ve always had some form of insurance/warranty whether it was AC+ or square trade just in case. I consider the cost of apple care plus a “no case fee”. I think it’s worth it to get to enjoy the phone in its natural state.

Personally I would wait to decide until drop test videos are posted on YouTube to see how durable the iPhone 12 is. I initially went with Apple Care (month to month plan) and caseless with my 11 Pro but ended up canceling after a few months. I had a couple of close calls so in the end I liked the peace of mind knowing the chances of my iphone surviving a drop were much better with a case.

I have had AppleCare on all of my iPhones except my 4s and it is honestly worth it to go caseless.
Here’s how it has always worked in my experience. When my phone drops/shatters, I call Apple. I tell them that I live 2.5 hours away from an Apple store (which is true) and that it’s not really convenient for me to get to the store. I ask to do an express replacement. They place a hold on my credit card for the replacement cost of the phone, send me the new phone overnight, and then I get my new phone within the next day or two. Then I send my broken phone back and the hold is released (minus the repair cost).
It’s honestly a seamless experience that takes less than 3 days to complete.

Isn’t there a limit to how many damage allowances there are?

It’s 2 per 12 month period.
I will note that the express replacement option is not covered under the $29 screen replacement deductible, only the $99 accidental damage deductible. But depending on your distance from an Apple store, it is probably still more convenient to do the express replacement.
I also believe they allow authorized service providers to do screen repair service now, but I’m not sure what those are since that’s new since the last time I used AppleCare.
