Buying broken iPhone and then getting it fixed

So a friend of mine wants to buy a broken iPhone 6s and take it into Apple and pay to fix it. His question is will it work if it's in one piece but does not turn on and the screen is cracked, will Apple service it?

They will likely offer to replace it with a refurb model for $299.

Hard to say what is wrong with it. It could have water damage. If that is the case you will be hard pressed to find an Apple store that will service it. Just like the post above, they will likely just offer to replace it. Depending on what "deal" your friend is getting he might make it out cheaper then just buying one off contract but it is risky.

So long as it doesn't have any third party parts or,modifications apple should service it for their out of warranty price. With a cracked screen and inability to turn on I would expect the full out if warranty replacement cost.

I'm unsure how Apple handles iCloud checks pm devices that don't turn in, but that is indeed a concern to consider.

Apple's system won't let them replace a device if iCloud is enabled, so they make you log into your iCloud account on one of their laptops to remove the device. If the device is locked and it's not on your account, they won't replace it.

Good to know. I figured there was a way for Apple to check otherwise I can steel a phone, break it, and grab a new one for $300. Thank you for the information.
