Hi

looking to purchase an Apple Watch, my budget will easily allow for a new series 6 which in the UK is priced at £409.

I’m coming from being a regular watch wearer and prefer the look of the Stainless steel version, more metallic looking especially paired with the Milanese loop, UK price £749.

However that’s a bit steep for me price wise.

I can get a series 5 with Milanese loop new from a retailer in the sales for £545, budget wise that’s ok.

I read loads on the differences between the 6 and 5, so I know there’s some slight feature differences but is the 5 still a really good purchase?

I suppose my main concern would be processor speed, lag or stutter which some reviewers have mentioned.

Any thoughts anyone?

Thank you

There is no stuttering on the series 5. If you do not want that blood oxygen measuring, go for the series 5 and retain the classical watch look you enjoy.
I own the Hermès series 5 wanted to have an additional blue one - the series 6 aluminum. It just acts the same way.

Thanks for that, appreciated especially as you have both series 👍

If you are one that keeps the watch for more than a year (and don’t care about resell value) and can’t abide scratches on the screen etc. the SS model is the way to go, especially with an active lifestyle.

If you are one who has to have the latest tech each year, getting the aluminum model and using a minimalist case or screen protector for the watch and screen would be more financially practical.

Thank you I’m definitely the former, would be looking to keep it for around 3 years + and yeah definitely not a fan of scratches and would be using the Milanese loop day to day but popping on a Nike style sports band for the gym and running etc

The Milanese loop will scratch your watch very easily. I don’t recommend using that loop if you hate scratches. It is a known problem with the loop and watches.

Here is the USA, I see used S5 stainless steel Watches going for about $350. If I bought local and could check out the condition before purchase, I'd have no problem buying used.

Anecdotally, the only stuttering I’ve ever encountered has been through third-party apps. Now, sometimes you might find some lag navigating through different menus, but that’s not really uncommon. In terms of performance, I was just mentioning in another thread, even the Series 2 still does really well. Anything above the Series 3 is still a strong performer. (As in the S4 and S5 are still very capable.)

Thank you everyone this has been really helpful and helped me make up my mind to go for the S5 in Stainless Steel.

Thanks again 👍
