Buying external hard drive 3.0

Hey guys. I need an external hard drive, and I'm thinking of buying a 3.0 hard drive, but will it work on my Macbook Pro early 2011 that only has USB 2.0?

Yes, but obviously you'll only get USB 2.0 speeds.

yes it will work. I find my usb3 stuff slightly faster on than usb2 stuff in usb 2 ports though.
