amyone has experience with buying a phone online for pickup in store and then changing the payment plan? I’m within the 2 weeks return period, and want to first secure a phone online. Since I’m on AT&T next my only option is to buy a new phone full price. My question is if I can then go to pick the new phone up, return my current one to reset the upgrade eligibility and then have Apple change my new phone to be on IUP or ATT next?

Yes I did it with no problem and got AT&T Next.

Is there a risk that while canceling the full price and until applying the new payment terms (IUP or AT&T Next) the phone becomes available again and someone can purchase it?

Wait, so when my PIF iPhone X finally comes tomorrow, I technically could head to an Apple Store, have them “return” it, sign up for the IUP and walk out with my iPhone no problem by just paying tax?

I’m AT&T but have more of an interest in the IUP. Also grandfathered, but am interested in switching to the higher end unlimited data plan.

I did it no problem like I said. But the rep in the front had to work with inventory in the back to get it done. It seemed like a behind the scenes thing but got it done with no problem.
