Yes, you are crazy. I would never consider an Intel Mac now in the age of Apple Silicon. After the first Intel Macs came out, PowerPC only received 3 years of major updates until Leopard and security updates a few years later. Plus, the Intel Macs are noticeably slower and run hot. I noticed this from using a M1 Mac mini for most of the year before getting the 16" M1 Pro MacBook Pro, which is a lot better and way faster than my 2018 MacBook Pro.

Since Apple are starting to limit features on Intel Macs, it won't be long until they stop giving major releases by 2024/2025. Maybe if you need Windows virtualization/BootCamp, but Windows 11 is not supported on BootCamp due to lack of TPM 2.0 without workarounds, which are unsupported. Unless you can get an Intel one for really cheap, I would save money for an Apple silicon one.

So, i just narrowed it down to 2 choices:
Mb pro 16 2019 (base one woth i7)
Mb air 2020 + that 17 inch asus portable

It is temporary solutiin, in 2-3 years will move to different locstiina nd will have proper office (so probably mac mini+proper 27 incher or imac or whatever will be available)…

Howdy -),

If you are going to replace whatever you get now, in 2 or 3 years anyway, get whichever option is cheaper. Personally, I believe managing 1 devices is easier than 2. Plus, since it only needs to "last" for 2 or 3 years, the argument that the Intel MacBook Pro is on the way out the door, is irrelevant. You can pretty much guarantee support for it for that long. I have been reading about the complaints on how hot and noisy the 2019 16" MacBook Pro, since it was released. I do not agree with that assessment, as my particular laptop (i9 2.3GHz, 5500 8 GB, 1 TB SSD) does not get any hotter than my previous 3 Intel MacBooks, and I actually found the fan noise to be quieter than the 15" it replaced. Plus, even though it gets hot to the touch, the CPU does not throttle on me with my workload. Granted, I do not plug in an external monitor into mine, and do not use it docked. So I am not discounting that others are having issues, I am just saying that your experience may not be as dire as this forum may lead you to believe :). Good luck!

Ok, it is gona be m1 mb air or pro13, but probably air.
Will see what i will do regarding monitor.. thx for discussion everyone.

Eh...if you need bootcamp...it's worth it...

Best Buy has the 1 TB/16 GB/ i9 model for $2000 right now. $800 off...

Apple will continue to support the Intel Macs probably through 2025...

Depends on what you mean by “support”. I’ll eat my shoe if macOS 16 runs on Intel, unless there is an Intel Mac Pro yet to be released, which I very much doubt.
13 inch Macbook Pro with the 10th Gen i5 is $1100 right now at Best Buy...$700 off...Open Box ones as cheap as $880...

If you need Bootcamp, it's a viable option...

They will continue to support the OS because there will be selling Intel Macs for another year or so...until they replace the iMac Pro and Mac Pro...

Nothing wrong with Intel Macs.

You're doing someone a favor for buying the originally $2,399 14nm 2019 16" at $1,899.99 when the 5nm 2021 14" is $1,999.

I expect Software Updates to end as late as 2026 & Security Updates as late as 2029.

I'd pick up a sub-1nm 2029 or 2030 Mac after a decade.

Many here should realize that having >1 computer whether laptop and/or desktop is not a norm in most peoples lives.

More often than not a smartphone is the primary/sole computer for most people so suggesting to have a Mac, Windows, Androids, iPhone, iPad, etc is laughable.
Dude, we may not even be alive by then -> 2026 & Security Updates as late as 2029.

then wait for the 17" or 16" MacBook pro models that will be released in the future.
or get a 17" square magnifying glass and place that on the 14" MacBook.
problem solved!
I very much doubt Apple will produce another 17" MBP. I had one of the originals (ran Tiger as I reca
I have 30 years, I believe I got my SE/30 early 1992, and never managed to fully adjust to full screen apps in their own Mission Control space. For years I also ran FVWM in parallel with my Mac (and sometimes on my Mac) with an always visible grid of four or six virtual desktops where I could directly manipulate windows, which has probably added to my aversion to the Mac implementation, which I find extremely cumbersome. I wish Mission Control was more configurable.

The result is that I never use Mac apps in full screen. This is the one aspect where I actual prefer Windows window management.

That’s what I’ve been thinking too, a 2015 MBP 15” would be the smart move in this situation if none of the suggested options for an M1-based Mac are going to work.
If you're serious about going Intel, just DON'T, whatever you do buy a 2016 (with or without Touch Bar). I was so glad to see the back of mine when I got my Max (gift from parents). The sheer relief of having a keyboard I can actually touch-type on again (wasn't sad to see the Touch Bar go, either). I've still got it, I don't have the heart to inflict it on anyone else, I'm not a sadist.

It's such a pleasure to be able to type without succumbing to carpal tunnel or RSI. Apple's FINALLY released the best keyboard on any MBP I've ever owned (and I've had a fair few: 2006 (the original - got half-inched), replaced it with a 2009 (that had logic board issues), then a mid-2012 (which my parents still have, but it's on its last legs (and, of course, it can't be updated past High Sierra (at least not without patching, which is beyond them - it's only used for Web browsing, email, Word and Excel). That was replaced with the 2016 (which Dad bought for them, but then gave to me), and now the M1).

As much as I'm enormously grateful for the tech my parents have bought me over the years, I do wish we had a more affectionate relationship. But I have Asperger's and they find that impossible to deal with.

LOL, so I was decided to buy air and monitor and then, local reseller put special offer on intel mb pro 16? -30 off original price.. but I was so hesitant that I missed it.. now, pissed that I did not pulled the trigger:D
i hate these decisions...

Still undecided:) i perfectly understand thah air with 16gigs of ram and 1tb ssd with that asus portable would be better choice than mb pro 16 i9/16Gb/1 tb for approx same price… but maaam, tjat 16inch disolay is so tempting:)

I picked up a 13" M1 MBP over Thanksgiving and I love it. Fast, quiet, very light. However, I still use my 2019 16" for my daily driver, the 16" screen just can not be replaced by the 13". My use case does not permit using an external monitor.

You know it’s surprising how many people want a big screen, but their use cases are not “pro”. These people end up buying completely over specced 16” MacBook Pro machines and don’t intend to do anything more than a bit of web browsing and finances.

Take my mother. She’s 73, used to do graphic design and has been using Macs since the 1990’s. Her old 2011 21.5” iMac is still doing sterling service but as it’s limited to High Sierra and she has had problems with viruses in the past she wants to replace it with an up-to-date machine, and has her heart set on something portable. But her eyes aren’t so good anymore and she wants a big screen so she has been reading up on the 16” M1 Pro MacBook Pro.

Its complete overkill for her use cases, she could easily get by with an entry-level M1 MacBook Air — if only there was a 16” version!

I am referring to current events and what will be catastrophic problems later on. I am talking about human extinction.
I really have to roll my eyes  everytime I read statements like this. Get real!
Do you not realize that predictions of apocalyptic events that would result in the extinction of humanity or the destruction of the planet have been made since at least the beginning of the common era.

I'm running Win 11 with Parallels on my new M1Max 14". It was SO easy - I didn't need to make an ISO, it automatically downloaded Win11, didn't need to sign up for developer ARM community.

While I use Windows for a legacy app I need, I also find that sometimes Word and Excel can do things that I can't quite get right on the mbp. And with a Office 365 license, I can add office to my Windows VM as well as my iPad.

This is SO much easier than a bootcamp partition that was a pain to manage & install. I find windows to be faster with Win 11 and Parallels. I don't even backup my windows partition because my storage is all cloud based and my installs are trivial.

Guys, i really really love mb pro 16 2019 form factor, would really love to buy it, but cant ratiinalize that.. so here i am again, mb air or mb pro m1 it will be… sad
