hello,

My grandmother is in USA and I asked her to buy me a non-contract iphone 3GS, but i was wondering will it work on other carrier in other countries ?

thank you

Any iPhone purchased officially in the US requires a 2-year contract. Unless you hit up ebay or craigslist you won't be able to find one without a contract. And even if you do it will only work with AT&T, so you will need to jailbreak and unlock it.

I don't believe there is any such thing as a non-contract iPhone 3GS in the USA, although I could be mistaken.

In any case, all US phones are locked to AT&T and would have to be jailbroken to be used on any other network.

Officially no.

Bit it will if you jailbreak it and unlock it. However, this means you can't update your phone until the update ahs also been cracked.

by AT&T customer you mean i have to use AT&T SIM card with it or i just have to have a file in AT&T (because my family in US are AT&T customers)

That question was already answered. All iPhones sold in the USA are locked to AT&T, if you want to use another carrier you will need to jalbreak it and unlock it. See above.

Or you can go to an Apple store and pay the no commitment price, and leave the store with an unactivated iPhone. However, it will still be locked t at&t
