Buying iphone without a contract

When will you be able to buy an iphone without a contract for 600 and 700 and your local apple store? Can you do this at AT&T?
 
This will not be available until at&t says so. Likely not until contract customers are served.

This is not likely to happen any time in the near future, if at all, at least while Apple is with AT&T (for U.S. customers at least).
