Amusing idea. Kindly point to where I wrote that? Correct - I did not. The 15" MBs are overpriced, absurdly in my opinion, for the performance and quality they offer.

Direct quote: "Apple has moved to a regressive, but highly profitable, cycle - they introduced Skylake models right before Kaby Lake came out; so you're purchasing older technology at an inflated price". I understand this as in "by selling you older technology, they get higher profits". Which again seems to suggest that they get the technology at a discounted rate.

Sigh. Apple should have updated the prior design to Skylake when Skylake became available a year ago, and then released the redesign with Kaby Lake when available.

Yes, they should have. But between waiting for availability of Iris Pro enabled Skylake and new AMD GPU, they missed that chance. The 2016 model is certainly a compromise in this regard, as its Apple's attempt to deliver the best using the cards available to them. And from business perspective, the decision to get a new model in time for holiday sale was certainly a correct one.

Instead, it waited over a year, and then released a product that has alienated a significant number of Mac users, for reasons ranging from poor quality control to absurdities like the touchbar, the atrocious keyboard, the absurdly large trackpad, and the ridiculous pricing.

Complete nonsense. In matters relative performance, build quality and features this laptop is an substantial improvement versus its predecessors. And of course some people were upset — some people are always upset. Its because people get upset I am still a strong supporter of Apple. They see themselves as a visionary company, leading change and modernisation, rather then attempting to maintain the status quo by keeping their users pacified within their comfort zone.

Imagine what Apple could have done by using the same chassis, with a 99.5 w/h battery.

What is the practical benefit of having 12 hours of battery instead of 9 hours of battery? The 9-10 hours is a sweet spot, because its basically a full business day. Any increase over it is a welcome emergency buffer, but not enough to make a difference under regular usage. You still need to charge the computer every day. In contrast, reduction of laptop volume is something that directly benefits any user on the go.

The base 2016 15" with 512 GB storage is $100 more than the comparably equipped 2015 model. For that you get a better screen, better speakers, better dGPU, a new touch bar, Touch ID, better battery life for light to moderate use, twice the external monitor support, more powerful and flexible ports, all in a smaller and lighter package.

That's a good deal to most people who think the earlier models are worth the money. The only ones who find it absurdly overpriced compared to earlier models are bitter folks mad about Apple not doing what they wanted about some thing or other. Such people typically simply ignore facts that don't fit their views and live in a bubble of their own bile.

For a machine that's on par, at best, with the prior version? Imagine what Apple could have done by using the same chassis, with a 99.5 w/h battery.

You make my point perfectly. All points already fully and clearly explained to you several times before, but you simply ignore the relevant facts (such as that there's already room for a larger battery in the new chassis, and the battery in the 15" already gets better battery life than the previous model) and carry on spreading bitterness throughout the forum.

Get 2015 or wait for refresh. Apple does not seem to iron out production errors in the same cycle, unless it is something huge.

Orrrr do what normal people do and CONSIDER the latest model out and don't believe the over the top negativity. If the 2015 is still your choice, at least you made a rational, informed choice, and not let internet fear mongering drive your decision.

It is just a computer. It's not a personal insult to you or your needs as a "pro". Tim Cook is not out to get you or set on destroying Apple. Jeeezuuuz.

The 2015 model is still a significantly powerful machine. I am sure the vast majority of 2015 owners such as myself are not gonna buy the 2016, 2017, 2018 model because it exists. Yes, its a generation behind, but there are users who are also using 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and and 2015 models just fine too. I am happy with my Early 2015. I played with the new model last last November while visiting Seattle and I wasn't impressed with the keyboard. The tactile feedback is just as disappointing as the retina MacBook. Apple should have maintained the existing chassis, kept two USB A 3.1 ports and two USB C TB3 ports. I couldn't tell a difference between the displays on the 2015 and 2016 models, and they were right there in front of me in the perfect environment, the Apple store. Of course, cost is a factor, the first place I would look is the refurbish store to see if you can a significant discount. This should help tide you over until at least 2019 or 2020 when Apple decides to do another major redesign.

So Apple should have made it bigger and heavier so they could make the ports less powerful and less flexible.

Most people can easily see a 50% increase in contrast. The difference in color space can only be seen with wide-gamut content.

When providing a direct quote, the quote should directly state the proposition for which it is offered. Try again.

So did you write that or not? If you feel that I took your statement out of context, than maybe you could try to at least provide a better explanation for what you meant? In particular, why did you say that its "highly profitable" and what you mean by "inflated price"?

And that sums up the content of your response.

So if overly emotional criticism ("atrocious keyboard", "absurdly large trackpad" etc.) aligns with your point of view, then its fine, but if someone argues against you, then its beneath you to answer. How constructive and mature. There is an entire world outside of your pond, try looking out sometimes.

I hope this wasn't in response to my post. I don't think I'd ever try to convince someone that they NEED a 2016 if they have a 2015. Computers should be expected to last and be current longer than one year.

No, it wasn't, but what I meant was, you don't necessarily have to get the 2016 model either. The base model 2016 for instance is considered as the direct replacement for the MacBook Air 13 inch. Yet, existing stock is a better value even though it lacks Retina. You save money and you get the same macOS experience. This partly about software too.

If money is factor, but you want a Pro, then 2015 still remains a great value too, just as purchasing a refurbished 2016 if you want to get the latest and save some money.

Totally agree. It's a good option too. My point agrees that they are both viable options. People have different needs.
