If you have a friend in NJ then have it shipped there. Take a drive to a Apple store in New Hampshire, no sales tax in that state - perhaps not an option unless you have a secondary reason to go there. I live in NJ and love to hike and camp there.

Also, if the MBP you want to buy happens to be a 13" base model then there is hope. MicroCenter.com has an ongoing special for only $999, a $200 savings. The catch is that the special price is for 'pickup only'. The Microcenter.com store in northern NJ has an additional perk, 50% off sales tax, or only 3.5% tax. So a 13" MBP goes for only $1,034 with tax. I bought one there last June (then sold it for more than I paid six months later on ebay with some software loaded). This lower tax rate, 3.5% applies to all purchases so if you are looking for a higher end MBP, or anything else in the large store, the tax rate would still be only 3.5% and that store, Paterson, NJ, is relatively close to Tarrytown and right off the highway. They even let you reserve online so you just take your reservation to the pickup window - they do not bill your CC until you pick it up.

Some day in soon congress will mandate sale tax, at the time of purchase, for internet sales. Right now sales tax must be included if the seller has a presence in the state the item is shipped to.

Wow i didn't know about this microcenter deal. Easily beats apple for me. I usually buy my Macbookpro from apple store in New hampshire and then sell everything.

Apple-1200-100-90(Sell apple giftcard/ebay)=1010
Microcenter-1034

Is the microcenter sale the entire summer? or is there an end date

I usually sell my macbook every year to get the newest one. Sell it for 950 to 900.

How can I sell my old MBP 2009 15" 2.53, and where of course ?

I need 15" so I will check MicroCenter :)

Edit: No 15" deal in MicroCenter

The sale has been going on for over a year but can change without notice. I bought a 2009 MB there for only $799 in March 2010 ($200 off lit), then sold it to get the 2010 13" MBP (as I wanted the backlit keyboard and firewire) in July 2010. Sold that in Nov 2010 for a 15" MBP from Amazon for $1,675 no tax - what I use now but I upgraded the hard drive and ram

How can I sell my old MBP...

I sold mine on ebay. I check the price of recent sales of similar models to see what the current prices are before listing. Some people like Craigs list but not me. You may net more since there are no fees but I do not want to meet a stranger in a parking lot for a cash deal of that size.

BH vs macmall

This will be my first imac.
Macmall's ad includes:Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi, SDXC card slot, Mac OS X Lion, Apple Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse
Specifically OSX Lion is included in the macmall, but BH
one must download within 30 days of purchase.
bh's ad:Due to Apple's OS upgrade, the preinstalled OS may be Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or OS X 10.7 Lion.

All Apple computers purchased on or after July 21, 2011 can be upgraded to Lion via free download from the Mac App Store within 30 days of purchase.

I've done businees with BH before and like doing business with them,
but traveling I may not be able to download Lion within 30 days.

Like others, I am tired of crashes.
