Buying music in iTunes 10 - audio quality

How can I tell the audio quality of the music I'm downloading. Didn't they have higher quality stuff available earlier? DO they still? How do I know?
 
Everything on iTunes is now 256k AAC, which is generally accepted to be virtually CD quality for the average listener.
