With the great assistance of MacRumors Forum members, another long time Windows user has finally entered the world of Mac. I have been using my new 24in iMac now for several weeks.

Two points for others who are contemplating the shift:

    1. Read this forum often and ask whatever questions come to mind. MacRumors is the best all-around forum that I found in the six months I spent preparing for the jump.

    2. There is a understandable bias in this forum that can seem to portray the Mac experience in an unfavorable light. The often acknowledged fact is that we tend to only post questions and comments when there are problems with our Macs. “Man bites dog” is a news story; “dog bites man” happens all the time. I want to report that my initial Mac experience was ABSOLUTELY flawless. Ordering, shipment, setup, first user experience: I could not have dreamed of a better outcome. Thanks for everyone’s help along the way.

Thanks for the post, bgerber. I bought a 20" iMac (prior to the release of the 24") and my experience has been quite positive as well.

Congrats on having a good experience. I wish I could say the same...keep us posted! And yes, I agree, this is the best forum on the net. Nice people, knowledgeable, quick response times, etc. I would, however, like to see some sort of table that says how often certain rumors became reality. Then I would know if I should be excited or not when a new rumor comes out! Anyways that was kinda O-T lol...enjoy the machine!

I'm glad to see your happy with your new purchase.

I'm in the middle ground right now. I am not 100% convinced it is the best move for me but at the same time I know I'm 100% pissed at Windows. I'm sick of the OS, the lag, the crashes, etc etc so I've been surveying my options.

In the near future I may move towards an iMac but like I said previously... I'm not 100% on it yet. Perhaps you could share either through private message or on the forums your personal experience with the switch.

Like problems you encountered? Things you were amazed by? How easy/hard it is to learn the new OS? Do you laugh at windows users now? Have you become a Mac addict? Do you try and convert people now? Was it tough to get used to the mouse? How easy is it to setup right from the box? etc etc etc.

    I'd love to hear more...

i love it how the Mac user experience is almost always glorious, from setup to finishing a task.

i've set up XP in the past, and i try to describe what it's like to set up Mac OS, but i'm always lost for words. It's something which has to be experienced :)

Congrats on your new iMac. I'm sure it'll serve you well for several years to come :)

I'm not the OP, but I can tell you using a Mac is nothing like using a Windows. At first, things may be a bit confusing, because the OS is so much more logical that Windows, but it doesn't take long to get settled in. Try it at an Apple centre; i can almost guarantee you'll want one by the end of the visit:)
