I’m gonna be in Vegas at the end of September and want to get the new OLED 6.5 iPhone, does anyone know if I will be able to walk in to an Apple Store and buy one outright for use in the UK (assuming there is availability)?

I know that “SIM-free” models are often a month behind launch in the US going by previous years but can you buy AT&T/Verizon etc iPhones at full price without signing up for a wireless contract and just use your existing SIM to activate?

What happens if they do not release until early November? It is possible.

As far as knowing if you can walk into a store and get one, no one knows that. All depends on Apple and the number of phones they have to sell. Usually the first few weeks a new phone will be a little hard to find. There will be lines early in the morning, at least.

Thanks for the reply. I understand there are lots of question marks surrounding the initial availability but putting that aside I’m interested as to whether it is technically possible should there actually be phones in store at that time?

It would depend on the popularity of the device and the amount of stock Apple Store receives at that location.. You can always check istocknow.com to check on the availability.

Thanks but please see my previous reply to a similar answer.

Your intended model may not be available in any guise at the time of your visit.
As you already suspect, the SIM free version may be even further delayed.
If the phone is available during your visit, you may have to settle for the Tmobile version which historically works with most SIMs.
When the iP6 was released, I purchased the Tmobile version from apple and used it with an AT&T account, and when travelling to the UK, used it with pay as you go SIMs.

OK great thanks, so when you bought the T-Mobile iPhone 6 you didn’t actually have to sign up to T-Mobile you could just simply use your AT&T SIM?

As for your other question, yes you can buy them full price and they won't ask any info. If purchased directly from the Apple store it should be unlocked.

Yes. The tmobile device was unlocked and I did use it with AT&T. I also used it with the (3) carrier pay as you go SIM in the UK.

I bought it directly from apple on line, not from the carrier.
If the phone is available at tmobile when you visit, it may be possible to buy one on contract then pay off the contract at the time of purchase.
I believe the phone would be useable with UKCarriers .
