So you bumped up to the 1TB storage option? That's the only thing I didn't max out on mine. I just didn't see the need. Do you do video editing or something or did you just want to get the baddest possible machine?

yeah, I went for the 1tb option. I went for it because I know I'll use all that space pretty quickly. $450 for twice the space was a big cringeworthy, but I don't want to deal with upgrading in the future, and I know these machines are getting harder and harder to upgrade. Plus the more capable space the SSD has, the faster it is.

I do a lot of video editing so it makes sense for me (currently I am a film major at university). but I also wanted a bad machine as well :p

Gotcha. Yeah, the price increase for the extra 500GB is certainly not justifiable, but it's apparently impossible to upgrade these new machines so you don't have a choice if that's the amount of storage you want.

I would have gone with the 256GB option but the only way to get the discrete graphics card was with the higher price point 15" rMBP which has a minimum of 500GB of storage. They really had me over a barrel because I wanted that discrete graphics card.

Well, enjoy your MBP. Hopefully Apple will get this whole keyboard/trackpad freezing thing work out with Mavericks soon! Mine is arriving Thursday and I don't want it freezing up on me all the time.

Wow! Are you certain? Like the OP, I have a friend who has entered uni - so... would that mean he (or I) could choose his institution (on the online store) and get it shipped without being asked for proof?

Asked again 'cos when I told this to my friend he was quite sceptical. Guess I'll mail him this link, ha ha ha...

Thank you for that tidbit, though! Glad to know that.

Yup. Anybody can do this.

If ordering online is an option for you, then you can just order without needing to show any proof at all.

My son is in college, I plan to use his ID in case they ask for it. I purchased rMBP 2.3/16/512 online with educational discount and pick up at store. I just picked it up today. They only asked for credit card you used to purchased and your driver license and that is it.
