I'm really confused but I think you want to know is:

You need to bring yourself (and if you aren't the account holder you need them or if you aren't the account holder have them add you as an authorized user on the account)

You also need to bring money.

Also, only AT&T corporate stores and Apple stores are selling them.

go to the apple store not at&t, at&t won't have stock and will try to get you to order one through "direct fulfillment" - they care more about making commission than when you actually get your phone. apple isn't going to run out.

From Apple Retail online

What to bring.

To purchase and activate iPhone 3G, you need the following:*

* Credit card
* Social security number
* Valid, government-issued photo ID
* Your current wireless account number and password or PIN (if you’re new to AT&T)

Remember to sync your current iPhone one last time before you come into the store.

thanks iPaul,

yeah i am trying to find out what is actually going on at the store, i am an authorized user on my dads account but i also know the last four digits of his SS# which ive used before.

I was trying to see what all actually happens at the apple store when u go to buy one...

i dont know why all of these posters had to throw in sarcastic replies, wait nevermind, yes i do.

DON'T GO WITHOUT YOUR DAD!!! I was just like you yesterday so be warned!!

I am an authorized user on my Dad's account and I went down the checklist on both Apple's site and the Att site and made sure I had the last 4 digits of his social just in case and everything. The Apple store I went to said they were sold out and I asked when they'd be getting any in and they just told me to check the website. I told them that the website claims to only be accurate after 9pm (I know my stuff) and they again told me to keep checking it anyways and then the guy said actually, just call us every hour and handed me his card. So I go in to look at the phones and then one of the employees comes over to me and whispers that if I really wanted an iphone that I should get in line because she just saw a shipment come in. That got me excited, even though I wish they would've just told me that in the beginning so I went to go stand in line and I was third. Well the employees kept coming out and saying "any minute now" "10 more minutes" "we got them in earlier than expected" "almost here" blah blah blah. TWO HOURS LATER they finally started to let us go through the line but right before they did, an Apple employee came down the line and asked how many phones we were getting and if we were a new/existing customer. They came to me, I answered everything but then she asked if I was the primary account holder and I said no but I'm an authorized user. She told me I wouldn't be able to get one and I was like but I'm authorized and my dad is at work. I also had my mom with me and she got pissed and wanted to talk to the manager. So the manager came and said that I had to be the primary and they can't sell phones to authorized users. I said nobody told me that and she said it was on the website (WHICH IT ISN'T) and told me to go to ATT. So I go to att and of course they're sold out and they said that only at att could I buy a phone because Apple requested in their contract to only sell phones to primary account holders and unless I take my dad, I will never be able to buy an iphone from Apple. He also said I definitely wasn't the first person to be rejected that day because of it and that Apple could have sold me a phone if they really wanted to.

In short, I waited for 2 hours for nothing on a Saturday evening and now I have to wait for att stores to get them in. Thanks Apple!

My husband authorized me and I was able to get my phone just fine. You might've been ok if you just stayed in line. You were giving wrong information.
