I’m sure more of the favorite color could be located. :)
The color yes. However I do my research before I go to a dealer so I know what color and options I want. In this case it is much harder to locate an identical car.

A wrapped box with a picture of a car in it and a message, let’s go get it. :)

Years ago, knowing my father longed for a really good gold chain (from Turkey), my mother drew a picture of a chain on a birthday card for him with a promise that "this chain is going to get bigger and better...the closer we get to Turkey."

While we laughed at the time, the chain - eventually - did get chosen (by him) and purchased (by her). He wore it until a few days before he died, when he surrendered it, reluctantly. She then wore it, until her dementia meant that she could no longer remember anything, least of all where she might have mislaid a gold chain.

Everyone I know who has deployed and gone through Turkey has purchased gold and leather goods. The leather jacket I got was much better than my issued jacket and cheaper too. Turkey is on my "to return to" list.

Ah, well said; his gift to her was a gorgeous leather jacket, which she chose and loved, and he bought her.

Fantastic leather - I agree, soft, and pliable, and simply lovely.

And the gold is gorgeous, too.

Turkey is on my return list, too.

Yes the leather is fantastic! The jacket I was issued when I was in Space Operations felt like vinyl and was cracking and peeling after 6 months. Someone I worked with got a leather jacket in Turkey when she was deployed so when I was deployed and passed through Turkey I too got one. It really is fantastic leather and as you said it is soft and pliable. When I passed through Turkey the 2nd time I got several as gifts for family members.
I never paid attention to the gold since jewelry didn't interest me at the time but now that I am older I might get some gold when I am there next.

We see such TV commercials during every holiday season -- a huge ribbon on the top of a fancy new car parked on the drive-way, and a loved one instantly becoming so elated. Sweet.

However, every time I see such a commercial, I always wonder if it is even possible to buy someone a car without him or her knowing. Every car must be registered and insured so the owner of the car must sign a few documents before you drive it out of the dealership, right?

Can buying someone a car as a surprise gift be really possible?
why don't you buy me one and find out? :D

Pay in cash and don't tell the person you are giving it to. Simple.
This was easier to do several years ago (like the time of the original post), especially if one person was in charge of the family finances.

These days with online banking and services like Mint.com, it is far harder to keep the financial transactions clandestine unless you have separate accounts.

If you had a joint account and you withdraw $35,000 for a cashier's check to take to the dealership, it would be pretty obvious for anyone who checked the account transactions. Things like registration and insurance would be less obvious.

You'd get attention if u drive it home like that.. a ribbon and bow going down the street.

But for a present, would be good,,,, You'd have a friend for life :D
