Buying the iPad 4! Should I get 16 or 32 GB?

I'm really excited to see that the iPad 4 was announced today because it'll be my first iPad. I stuck around for quite some time, holding off from buying an iPad 3 just in case today's announcement mentioned a refreshed iPad.

Anyways, I plan on putting just my favorite music on there (about 2-3 GB worth) because I already own a 80 GB iPod Classic and my phone that holds 16 GB of internal memory and 8 GB external from a microSD card. I even have most of my songs on Google Music.

I do plan on taking this iPad to Japan for winter break, so I will probably put 2-4 movies on it that I can take on/off. The ultimate question is app space. Based on your experiences, would 16 GB be enough to put the media I want plus a decent surplus of apps? Or should I be safe and go with a 32 GB?

Since I'm already willing to fork out $500+ dollars, I don't think another $100 would be too bad... but an extra $100 would be nice for my trip to Japan!!

i learned the hard way with my iPad 2 16GB

when i got the iPad 3 i made sure to get the 32 GB model

I'm on the same boat but for me it's the iPad 3 refurb, either get a 16 or a 32. Used for some pics just lil bit of music but more on apps for myself and my kids.

Are the apps that big on space? I like to game and yes it will be loaded with apps for myself and my kids but not hard core games like real racing or anything like that.
 
32GB 4th gen. same price as the 3rd gen.

I'm on my 2nd 3rd Gen 32GB iPad. The first one had the black line across the screen. I would think the processor in the newer iPad is better. Go with the 4th Gen
 
Another vote for the 32 GB. I had a 16 GB iPhone 5 and found that it was going to quickly be filled up so I returned it and got a 32. 16 GB used to be a lot but it isn't much anymore...

well im looking at a 32GB iPad 3 refurb so the price is different.
 
Totally depends on how you're going to use it. Many 1st time folks think music, maybe movies, thats it. But in my case, I stream music from Pandora, stream movies from Netflix or Amazon. But I use tons of apps. Some are big like 1.2GB for Real Racing 2 HD. Put a bunch of bigs apps, lots of data and you're out of luck.
I got 32GB when I upgraded from an iPad1 to 3. I wouldn't have expected needing that much space originally.

Yeah I mostly will load it with apps for myself and the kids maybe some pictures to take advantage of the retina display no music, for that i got my iphone and my macbook, the iPad will just be used at home.

wow! thats allot of apps, didn't think that many would load up on a 3 and still have a good amount of free space.

I think I'm gonna go with the 32 GB Black iPad 4. Do preorders start at midnight or some other time in the morning?

If you like to game, and also want movies, get the 32GB
 
I bought a 32gb iPad 1 (preordered) then upgraded to a 32gb iPad 2. I skipped the iPad 3 but will now upgrade to the iPad 4... But this time around I'm getting the 64gb model.

Why? Because after owning iPads for 2.5 years I've discovered that I'm using it significantly more than I expected and want more of my media collection on it. Virtual turntable apps and unique music playing apps like "Track8" make the ipad a fun jukebox.

The apps are getting bigger and the output produced by content creation apps are taking up space as well. And lastly, I believe that the iPad has matured sufficiently that I'll be able to keep it for at least 2 years, probably 3.
 
I vote 32gb. You can fit plenty of movies and music on there and games and apps i feel.

By the way, as a side note if you are going to Japan from the east coast, USA, it is 18 hours by plane :p. So take more than 2-3 movies unless you are a good sleeper or don't get restless sitting down. Japan is amazing though!

Yep. I learned when I bought a 16GB iPhone 4S. I survive thanks to Spotify. But I have had to dump a ton of apps compared to when I had a 32GB iPhone. If you keep a lot of games, video or magazines on your iPad, you will hate 16GB. This is why i didn't believe Apple would make an iPad mini with 8GB of storage (actually 6 you can use).

I do. It really should be 32gb as the entry model in 2012. The price difference between the 16gb and 32gb (apple's cost) isn't that big. The problem for them is having the 128gb option at $699 but really, the cost of 128gb for apple shouldn't be a deal breaker either.
