Need some help sorting out what my best option is here.
I have a 2017 Macbook Air....logic board was replaced for free at Genius Bar in Summer 2018.
Here we are in almost at Summer 2020 and my logic board as failed again.
Replacement quoted by the authorized dealer is close to $600.
Called Apple and they said sorry. Is what it is.

I really don't want to drop $1400 on the new MacBook air, but a little nervous to sink money into a machine that keeps destroying logic boards. Sidenote...WHY has this happened twice in two years? I'm not running the machine that hard.

My gut says I just need to buy new....but want to make sure I'm not missing something before I shell out more money.
Thanks for any insight that can be offered.

If you are happy with the Air, why not get a refurbished Apple or Best Buy Outlet ?

2018, 2019 can be had for a better price than a new.

Then make sure you get Apple care!

BTW my 2017 Air has been very reliable for 3 years and very happy - never had an issue.

No
Any idea what failed on the logic board?

How does the Air behave with the existing board?

Hi, no they just stated that it was a failed logic board. I don't have enough computer knowledge to know otherwise. The device had been working fine but turned it on one morning and the screen randomly went to rainbow static and began shutting down and restarting. The error message was no CATERR detected.

The symptoms were similar the first time this happened as well.
