I think everyone assumes their own currency most of the time

Same **** different day. You paid 500 pounds and said half a grand to make it sound like more.

"A grand" is a very common term here in the UK. People use it all the time and not because they are trying to make the amount of cash sound like more. £500 is half a grand no matter how you look at it. Similar terms we also use in the UK is " Don't BEAT around the bush". Do you know that one?

I'm happy to report this is the first time I've ever heard someone call 500 quid 'half a grand'.......

1 grand, 2 grand, 3 grand etc... Half? Nah....
