Which do you prefer and why

Pulse is great but it doesn't sync back to google reader unless you close and reopen the app and put the unread item as read and click refresh

It's too much trouble, anyone else having that problem?

I have both RSS readers. Pulse is great for a quick visible scan of the news. I don't use it for serious news consumption. Byline is not as intuitive as I would like it to be.

I also have MobileRSS, and prefer it as an RSS reader instead. I would advise you to check out this RSS reader. There is a free version that you could check out.

As far as comparing Pulse to Byline:

Byline is for individuals that read more than 20 feeds per day. If you're a news hog, Byline would be more suitable. Pulse has a lot of work to do. It does not have automatic or background sync. That can be somewhat of a hassle. I don't use the desktop version of Google reader to read feeds (I only use it to occasionally set up feeds), so I honestly don't know how well each reader syncs with Google.
