Either it's been removed in Lion or it's a bug. I'm leaning towards bug.

Previously I could just plug in a CAC reader and access DoD sites with my MilCAC on Snow Leopard but in Lion GM it does not see the card at all so it can't pull my certs.

I'm just curious if anyone read or heard somewhere that this was intended or not. Really don't want to have to fork out $30 for Pkard in order to access DoD from home.

CAC Card Reader

I too am having the same issue... the reader was working with 10.6.8

I recently purchased PKard for MAC v1.0.1 and it supports OS X 10.7

PKard for Mac

According to up-to-date sites such as MilitaryCAC.com and others, PKard for Mac is the only supported solution for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion CAC and PIV cards.

Under Snow Leopard and Leopard, it was already the only supported general solution, especially for newer CAC cards known as CAC-NG.

On the Mac it's actually a similar picture to Windows where a lot of web posts go something like my card XYZ worked for tasks ABC on Windows 7 and therefore ALL cards work for ALL tasks on ALL OS versions. In many situations, PCs require third party software such as ActivClient.

Bottom line, it's worth seeing what works out-of-the box for you and if it doesn't, there are solution available.

Caveat emptor - most folks don't read the small print but some of the old Mac downloads on the web have terms and conditions like developed outside of the US, use at own risk, no support, no road map, no security guarantees etc. so whichever solution is chosen, worth knowing who stands behind it and where it came from, no matter which vendor.

30 bucks and it still doesn't work

I paid the 30 bucks for the software from thursby, however the mac (lion) doesn't even recognize the cac card readers when I plug them in. I've tried two different card readers with no luck. Any suggestions?
