CAC Reader

Earlier today I had a coworker ask me to recommend a CAC reader that will work on his MacBook and preferably interface with a virtual machine running Windows on Parallels. In the past I have not had luck finding a CAC reader that will work on my Mac so I resorted to accessing my .mil information on a Windows desktop that I used as a media server. Can anyone recommend a CAC reader that will work on a Mac?

Thanks am I reading it correctly that he can use the CAC reader with Mac and Parallels?

I used to use this CAC reader with Windows in Parallels without problem. It's nice and portable.

Thanks I'll check it out. Does it work in macOS also or only Windows in Parallels

It works in both, but I always had better success with Windows. I attribute to the military’s Windows stovepipe. Interoperability is not a design criteria.

Thanks I attempted to get it to work on my Mac years ago but gave up but might try it again

I have not tried the reader posted earlier, but the one I bought works for Mac OS 10.11. If I can find it, I will link it later.

According to the reviews of the one that was posted above, most people have had success using it on Macs, while others had issues.

I’ve used this reader on OS X from 10.11 to 10.13 and it’s been great. It also works in Windows 10 inside VMware fusion.

I use this on my MacBook SGT111-8c Corporate and Govt/DOD PIV PIV-I CAC CIV TWIC FRAC EMV CAC FIPS 201 TAA Compliant ISO 7816 Smart Card and Credit Card Reader with USB Type-C connector and it works for what I need.
