When I got my first MBP back in 2011, Caffeine was the first app that I downloaded. I never bothered to look into Energy Saver settings, because I came across Caffeine first, and it did what I wanted. I always keep Caffeine activated indefinitely, so is there a way to fulfill my needs exactly via the Energy Saver settings without the need for Caffeine? My needs are very basic and the same whether on or off battery:

    1. Computer and display are awake indefinitely when the lid is open.
    2. Computer and display are completely asleep when the lid is closed.

Will setting "Computer sleep" and "Display sleep" both to "Never" for both "Battery" and "Power Adapter" achieve exactly what I am looking for?

Doing some menu bar cleaning, but you can't hide Caffeine from the menu bar.

Yes that will achieve what you're looking for.

Thanks. So is Caffeine essentially just overriding the two computer sleep and display sleep settings and nothing else? I guess I'm not taking full advantage of Caffeine if always keep it activated indefinitely.

Yes as far as I can tell, I use it because 90% of the time I want my display and computer to sleep when not being used. But 10% of the time I need it to stay awake and screen on.
