Calendar alternatives?

Hi all, does anyone have a calendar app they recommend? Ive had it with the apple one now - it just refuses to sync with my work exchange account and its beyond frustrating. It used to work ok on my phone, but thats stopped now too. The IT support people say the problem is with the mac, and I can access the calendar via outlook so maybe theyre right. I hate outlook with a passion, apple mail is working fine (touch wood!), and in any case I want a stand alone calendar (not like the outlook one). Any recommendations for something reliable? And relatively cheap/free I did look at fantastical, but its a bit expensive, so just wondering if anyone else has found a nice one.

Thanks. What Im finding is that these apps merely use the data that comes through the native apps - so they still arent working for me as the problem is that exchange is failing to sync for whatever reason - it randomly works, but wont access calendars that have been delegated to me. Im limited to the god awful web outlook when all I desperately want is a stand alone calendar. My email account is quite large and I don't want to swap this over to the outlook app - I much prefer apple mail, and don't want to take up double space on my computer/phone/ipad etc. Otherwise Id suck it up and just have both. What a nuisance.
