Hopefully I can describe this clearly.
I use the stock Calendar app on my iPhone 6s integrated with my Gmail account. When it comes to reminders they seem to be hit and miss and the majority of time I have to use the pull down menu to see them.
Is there any way the Calendar notifications can act like the Reminder app, where it always shows even on the home screen and you have to manually set it to completed?! If I remember correctly even my old Blackberry Bold had better calendar interactions than this.

    Help!

Something like that isn't possible with the stock iOS Calendar app. I don't think even third-party ones can really do that either.

Could you not change the types of notifications that the calendar app gives you? Maybe to "alert" instead of "banner"?

By the way, have you ever tried Fantastical? It puts both reminders and calendar items together on the app's main screen. Great app all around.

This is the trouble I ran into with Google Calendar way back when I was setting it up.

If you truly want a reminder it's best to actually use the Reminders app. The upshot is that the Reminders app is easier to schedule recurring instances. Google Calendar only gives you a couple of alert times. I find it best to use Google Calendar for stuff that's either an appointment or an event. But that's just how I do it.

At the Google Calendar website (or in the Google Calendar app for iOS) you can set up to five reminders (pre-event) for every event in a calendar or do it on a per event basis. You don't have to get the alerts via the Google Calendar app...they'll come through in your iOS Calendar app.

I'm actually not using the Google calendar app - I'm using the stock Calendar app but with my Gmail account.

Re-read my post...I'm saying you can log into your Google account online and set up the specific calendar to give 5 notifications for every event it contains. The notifications come through the iOS app. Conveniently, you can download the Google Calendar app, if you wish, set the notifications using the app, and not use the app for notifications or otherwise. This is inconvenient if you want to set different notifications for every event...but that's extra labor no matter how you look at it.
