In a van down by the river
I tried to load some books on my iPad Air with Calibre, and Calibre is not recognizing the iPad Air at all.

I am running Yosemite and iOS 8.3

Anyone run into this problem? If so, what is the remedy?

As a follow up, when I AirDrop mobi files into the Kindle app, it puts them in the documents section. Anyone know how I can get move mobi files to the correct location in the Kindle app, since Calibre is not recognizing my iPad?

I have two AZW4 books. In order to load it onto my iPad Air, I had to change the file extension to .mobi. The iPad reads the books as it should with all the Kindle app features. My problem is that when I changed the file extension to mobi, I lost my book cover. Is there any way to get the book cover to properly show in the Kindle app? The book I have is in two parts (textbook). And I can't tell which part is which without the covers showing, unless I blindly click on one of them.

AZW4 is a textbook print replica format. It is a PDF wrapped in a mobi container. As such trying to convert from AZW4 to Mobi in Calibre doesn't work as the book is all messed up.

Anyone know how to fix my book cover problem?
