Good night everyone!

Does anyone else find the microphone to be working weirdly when you put a call on speakers? My wife frequently complains that I start sounding choppy when I do that. Doesn’t happen if I’m not on speaker, so it’s likely not a microphone problem per se.

My phone quality is better when I use the speakerphone. You’ve got to hold the phone in your hand and talk directly into the mic less than 1ft away. And speak up!

Call quality on speakerphone is perfectly fine for me from further away and no reason to handhold the phone.

I called Apple support, used the speakerphone and had no issues at all. I had also removed my case before I started the call. She had me make sure DND was off, made sure my sound was working, and checked under Accessibility>Audio/Visual that the Background Sounds were off. Everything was fine. We were on the call for 15 minutes and nothing happened. It usually starts happening within 5-10 minutes. She did mention that the noise canceling could be an issue if you are far away from the phone but I never was. Anyway, I'm going to purchase a different case and see if that makes a difference.

It happens regardless of whether my case is put or not, and my glass protector has a cutoff around the notch so it shouldn’t interfere.

I have to hold it in my hand at no more than 15cm from my face to be heard without cutoffs, which is inconvenient since when I need to use I generally need to have my phone more than 15cm away.
