OK so I already have the 30D and a 5D, why buy the 40D.

Simple, my brother was out to buy a camera and he was looking at the Nikon line-up, mainly the D80. Well he was about to buy the D80 when he called me and asked what I used. I told him Canon so he flipped to the 40D.

He brought it over and gave it to me to play with for a day. WOW! It
s nice, in fact it was so nice that I went out and bought one today.

I got the 40D, *another* 28-135mm IS lens in a kit.

Price was good. About $1200 USD, actually a tad less.

Probably could have bought it cheaper online somewhere, but being able to go to a local photographic supply house and picking it up in person has its benefits.

I cannot wait to try this thing out on the next clear starry night with a telescope. Seems " Live View " function was made for that!

Than it will be off to the woods, insect hunting with my 180mm macro lens.

Looks like my 30D will be demoted to backup-to-the-backup camera duty! :D

I do like the layout/design of the 40D over the 30D.

Question - is your signature serious? How does this fit with that?!

Well there is some truth in it. We have a cabin on 20 acre wooded lot in Western Maryland. It is not on the grid, we do however have 12 volt battery banks charged with solar cell arrays. It's a 'getaway' where we seem to spend a lot of time. No commercial power, no commercial water ... if we want water we fire up a generator and pump water up from the well into a tower.
