So Im sitting here at my Computer, and I see something out of the corner of my eye. I had a visitor. So like any good geek, I took his picture. Never seen anything like him before, any thoughts on what he might be?

Well, after this had sat unsolved for several days, curiosity got the better of me, and I emailed a link to my dad, who's a proper entomologist and everything.

Here is the official word:

Actually it is a bug! It's what we call an assassin bug in the UK ('cos they pounce on small beasties) tho' I don't know what they're called in the USA.

So there you go. Here is the requisite Wikipedia article about 'em – they do indeed seem to be called assassin bugs in the US as well.
