So...I hate cases. I try them, they last a few days, they come off. I have apple care. This is not a thread about if I should use a case.

My question is for those that have decided the same. How well have your 11 pro/pro max held up with no cases. Any issues with camera lens scratches? They are my main concern

I’ve owned nearly every iPhone since the original and never used a case. Never had a lens scratched.

an AppleCare iPhone replacement is WAY more expensive than a case! Plus going naked causes lots of scratches, nicks, and abrasions that will cause the iPhone to look ugly and heavily reduce its resale value. I love cases, I have many. I’m not trying to show off my iPhone to others because nobody cares by going caseless. I have AppleCare also, but I may not ever use it because I baby my iPhone and keep it very clean, it has to look new for me all the time.

Me too.

I would rather pay for an AC+ replacement iPhone than use a case.

I might get a few scratches now and then, but I would much rather have the freedom of not using a case.

is It that important to you that you have to show off the iPhone? Is that what you are wanting to achieve? going Caseless you constantly have be gentle and aware of how fragile the phone is being fearful not to drop it...If that’s the case (no pun intended) apple makes a clear case so you can show it off and have a better grip on it as well. I have seen a cool A neat one made of carbon fiber and it’s extremely thin and you can’t feel it much. The only drawback is that it costs $80. Just be careful with your iPhone. I cringe when I see people not using a case on a (up to) $1450 iPhone.

Same here, nothing major ever happened to any of my iPhones and I used them all without cases. I even was told quite often - when selling them on - that the phones look like they‘ve been in a case most of the time.
Of course I tend to look after my stuff quite well ;)

I never use cases at all on my 11 pro. In fact I’ve been using iPhones mostly without cases since the 4S days and I’ve never had scratches on my devices. I generally keep them in my pocket when I’m out and about. Also I’m mindful about where I put them down.

Having said that I’ve used my 6S with a sleeve case for some time. So it’s more like a wallet where I place the phone rather than putting a traditional case on the phone.

I’ve used a bumper case on my 8 plus for a while because it looked cool.

And I’ve bought a cheap TPU case for the 11 Pro before I went travelling for 3 weeks during the Christmas period. Since I didn’t know what type of environment I was going to be in. I used it while I was abroad but took it off once I got back.

I don't know why you are talking about having a case for showing/not showing the phone.. 🤔 I never use a case because I love to see my phone and how it feels naked, the way that what designed. At the end you are paying for design, materials, finish, and part of it is hidden by the case. iPhones are really durable phones, with some care you will have a good-looking phone for a while. I normally use a home-made sleeve like case when transporting but always operate it naked.

I’d been using a TORRAS clear case since launch day but decided to go the caseless route for about a week now. I do have a tempered glass on it and AC+ so I’m not at all worried. I only put it down face up when the surface is too slippery and the tempered glass side just wouldn’t hold the iPhone in place.

if you readmy post I said I’m not looking for advise on using a case.Thank you for your opinion but I simply do not like cases and I’m interested in hearing from like minded individuals.

For those that haven’t been using cases and noted no issues with the camera lens, have you been putting the phone face down or cameras down when putting it on a surface?

I've been putting my caseless iPhone 11 Pro Max back-side-down since launch day, and my camera lenses are still pristine (as is the frosted back glass, actually). My screen had two perpendicular <1mm scratches on it (maybe the pocket rivet on my 501s?) so after four months I finally put a screen protector on it last week. Not so much to hide the scratches but the oleophobic coating had almost completely worn off, and keeping it smudge and fingerprint-free was getting to be a hassle.

I’ve mostly been case less with my X with no issues with the camera lens so I’ll assume the same with the 11 pro. It uses sapphire glass which is even more resistant to scratches then the front and back glass so you’ll be fine

Camera lens are pristine but my phone is usually in my pocket. If I put it down on a hard surface, I go face down. Face up everywhere else.

No, my current iPhone is an SE. Hardly something to brag about.

Besides, even if I had the most expensive iPhone available, I wouldn't care what others think about it.

Is that what you are wanting to achieve?
To be caseless is what I want to achieve.

I like the feel of the phone without a case. I dislike the added bulk cases typically add to a phone. Phones are getting big enough already, I do not need to add something on it to make it even harder to fit in my pockets.

I cringe when I see people not using a case on a (up to) $1450 iPhone.
If they are happy about it, why would you care?

I baby my iPhone and keep it very clean, it has to look new for me all the time.

I remember when people used to talk about their cars in this way.

But, I won't knock you for caring so much, people are into different things for different reasons. It is just that I see my iPhone in a more utilitarian way.

Getting to the OP's original question though, if the OP cares mostly about the camera lens, but chooses to not utilize a case, I think under most situations the lens will be fine.

I have been using case-free iPhones since 2007 and have yet to damage the camera lens.

Face side up, and never an issue.

Well, the only issue that I remember on my iPhones was with my 6s Plus. The metallic ring around the lens started to wear away on one side of it. I guess from sticking out so far and the rocking back and forth.

But, the lens itself was perfect.

Sometimes it takes an accident for Someone to change their mind😂

my friend’s dog ran across the living room and his tail caught the charging cable, phone went flying. Good thing I have a case else I’m looking at 360 dollar screen repair

I have not always used a case, I like the phone to be as slim as possible but since the Xs I had to get one and went for the Torras ultra-slim, which is great and does not add too much overall size.

The only reason I started using a case is that I have just found the Xs too slippery without one, a few times I near dropped it.

That speaks to mindset.

Most non-case users would have registered that a friend's dog was present. Their phone would not have been plugged in to charge in any area the dog might potentially be in or that the dog could reach. It would have been set high somewhere or in a pocket, or in another room with a closed door if that had to be.

As a case user I highly doubt any of that entered your mind at all. Because having a case on your phone meant you didn't have to think about any of that.

And that's the (main) difference between case users and non-case users. Non-case users are always considering and weighing the potential dangers to their phone or device. Case users aren't because having a case means (they assume) that they don't have to. The case becomes it's own security blanket.

The (apple silicon + screen protector) case gives my xs max grippyiess. While the case is no guarantee in event of a disaster, I treat the phone as if it had no case.

Once you break the leather case in after a couple days, it provides grip and isn’t overbearing from a size and weight perspective. That’s what I use daily.

That is a narrow scope of assumption you are putting there, completely missing my point, the saying “**** happens” applies no matter how mindful someone’s thoughts are, many variables occurs well outside of ones domain. To say that I shouldn’t Be charging my phone cause there is a dog around is laughable at best

It may be that and while I do understand that accidents happen, the difference in mentality between case users and non-case users remains.

It may be irrational to you to think and act this way - but you use a case, so you don't need to take that in to consideration. The case provides that peace of mind.

I read in here cases are cheaper than applecare+ replacement. I would beg to differ. Most case users have multiple and some at a high cost. One user stated an $80 case. So no thanks I’ll keep mine the way it was intended and if a mishap ever happens I’ll get a replacement.

11pro, no case since October, no camera lens or rear glass scratched. The metal frame has a few nicks, but nothing major.
