i think its all based on where you are/live. I went to the apple store in buffalo ny (right near canada) I got in line at 2:15 and was probably between the 200-250 person in line. Luckily my apple store had plenty of stock and when I got in the store at about 6:15 they still had every configuration left and were ready for the rush. By the time i left someone said there were close to 1000 people in line and i could certainly believe it as there were 5 rows approximately 70 yds back of people. After reading threads all week I thought that I wouldnt have to wait to long and that i would atleast be one of the top 50 in line but I was wrong. either way im happy.
 
I'm surprised that the lines were as long as they were. As someone who suggested that the lines wouldn't be very bad, I stand corrected. That said, I followed the exact plan I articulated back when I didn't think the lines would be too long, and I walked away with the iPad of my choice, so I guess it's a zero sum gain.
