It didn't actually shut down. All the people behind it just created a new company while adding even more bad actors, including Erik Prince, founder of Blackwater and brother of Betsy DeVos. http://www.businessinsider.com/camb...ives-and-mercer-family-launch-emerdata-2018-3

I know it says this in the article but the top comments don't suggest that people are actually reading it to the end.

It’s still a significant cost to the company, legally and administratively, to shut down and reform. They said their work completely dried up, which I can believe, and presumably they lost a number contracts that were in the works and close to fruition.

The new company will have to start without a track record, which can count for a lot in these things, so they’ll probably have to charge less for a while too.

I’m sure the individuals involved won’t lose out much, but anyone working in the field will know the major players and will pretty easily be able to deduce their history at CA.

They got burnt for sure. But it’s probably also the case that most of their potential customers are as morally bankrupt as they are and aren’t concerned by inconvenient things like ethics when there’s money to be made.

Ironic, perhaps, since Blackwater is another company that has changed its name multiple times to evade bad press and try to shake their unscrupulous deeds.

Personally, I'm a pretty understanding guy. As Lincoln once wrote, "I am a patient man – always willing to forgive on the Christian terms of repentance; and also to give ample time for repentance." What disturbs me is when aforesaid 'bad actors' simply slink from one disguise to the next. This tells me that they are not interested in doing the right thing; they are merely interested in shirking their communal responsibilities as human beings. Groups such as this were probably ostracized back when we were hunters and foragers; now we unwittingly elect them to run our corporations and governments.

Afternoon MacRumors,

Please do not post false information. Cambridge Analytica simply changed the name of its business to EmerData. When companies receive bad press or negative attention, this is what they do. A more adequate title would be

‘Cambridge Analytica changes to EmerData after Facebook scandal.’

This article may have been posted early and that's why the name change wasn't highlighted but even at 6:00 AM CDT the regular news sites I read mentioned that it was primarily a name change because the same people would be running the 'new' company. The headline should be updated to reflect this.
