Camera Adapter for new iPad Pro?

Just bought the 11" iPad Pro and realized that I can't use my Lightning to USB-3 Camera adapter to import my DSLR images to the new iPad. Since iPad uses USB, can I simply connect my Nikon Camera with a USB-C to USB cable to the iPad directly?

Yes. Although it seems nothing is guaranteed with the new iPads (I can't import videos with my camera). A USB-C card reader should also work.

Apple introduced a USB-C card reader, but it's much more expensive than other more full-featured readers.
