Personally I find most of these criticisms to be spot on, but I’m willing to give some time to see if I can accommodate the new button with my own adjustments (along with adjustments in accessibility and what might come in future firmware).

1) the position on the phone is an obvious compromise between vertical and horizontal, and that’s unfortunate because it’s just bad for both.
2) the hard press is not a big deal with practice and holding the phone securely
3) I can’t really manage to adjust the settings reliably with this button with accuracy, it’s just weird to hold, press and slide your finger on the surface of the button while holding the cam
4) this will all get MORE confusing when the button is also mapped to actuate apple intelligence. Too much task allocation for one little button
5) final take: I still like it!!! In fact, I kind of love it. You ask me would I like to have this button removed in place of no button at all, I would say absolutely not. I love the ability to actuate the camera in a new way, as well as move through settings in a new way. Of course, I can always do things the old way, and I can even disable the button if I need to.

I think this is the type of thing I can train myself to use really well. I’m a human and very adaptable and can usually learn how to do things that help to make my workflow easier.

I’m going to give it some time to adapt, but I’m already thinking that using a case with a cutout isn’t going to cut it. I’m using a Torras slim-fit now (which has been my go-to for years) and it makes the button much harder to use. It’s a bit better without the case.

I think I would have preferred another button like the action button, but dedicated to the camera.

No time will anyone get used to it, it’s slower doing everything you can already do

Awful gimmick that's just a bandaid for another pathetic upgrade from apple, action button last year and now this.

No AI at launch and the camera button is so pointless and SLOW compared to just using the same controls on screen.

Desperation in Apple right now is shocking.

Bad design to not have made a decision and prioritized one or the other and stick with it

There's WAY to much overthinking with this.

- Assign the camera to Action button
- Use Camera control to adjust settings.
- Take the pic/video
- Done.

I think is not as earth shattering as advertised, but I like it, and use it. They will build more feature integration into it in the future is my guess.

Wow @ this thread!!

Although i'm not using a 16PM which might feel a bit different, i'm shocked at the people that are getting "shaky" photos as if the button is actually hard to depress? My only issue with it so far (if you want to even call it an issue) is the muscle memory of knowing its there before launching the camera.

Side note, you guys do know that you can assign it to be something else right? (not many options but at least they are some)

That’s the issue using the camera button to change settings is a headache it’s quicker to use the display, like zooming just touch the zoom on display it’s a million times quicker

Like everything they say will get better over time and it never does, like Dynamic Island people said it will develop over time, nope still the same. Like the Touch Bar that died

Conceptually I don't know how the dynamic island gets better, unless it just goes completely away....

One problem I noticed today with my 16 Pro that I haven’t seen anyone talk about… using Camera Control to take a Live Photo = very bad Live Photos playback. Thoughts?

The way it works in the uk with the upgrade is now I’m paying the same £68 a month for phone and plan for another year, if I left the 15 pro max I would be paying the same monthly fee so it’s the same. So now I’m still paying the same monthly fee for the new phone so not paying anymore, I do like the new one every year so for me it’s the better option
So you are paying for your phones through the very high monthly rates. You get a new phone every year? Do you have to give back your old one?

It’s a good deal I have 25% my line so it’s phone but unlimited usage, and it’s £76 a month and each year it’s a free phone yes I have to return it or they charge me like £495 but I normally sell it privately for more so I make money. So it’s not a big deal for me having the new phone each year

It’s about features like more apps using it etc it hasn’t gotten any better, Apple makes stuff and just forgets about it, like the Touch Bar

I don’t have any slaw issues that some people mentioned. However I am frustrated at it not waking up from AOD when it’s pressed. It feels slow in that regard. I know the whole double press thing, but sometimes It takes a photo immediately on opening, and sometimes it doesn’t. I’m hoping some of the next betas remedy these issues.

Gonna go against the grain and say I like it. The control aspect is a little convoluted, but using it to quickly open and capture is quick and intuitive.

I set mine to open the camera on a double click instead of single. Zero accidental activations.

Regardless of the comments on this iPhone, I love Apple. I don't think the 16 Pro will be a bad upgrade if you are coming off an older iPhone. Like most things, the consumers will adapt to the new tech. AI will be really nice when it comes. I upgraded from the 13, 14 to 15 Pro each year. But not this year. I must have watched every review video last year, and only 2 this year. I really like my 15 Pro. But I'm kinda excited for the 17 Pro next year.

I also set mine to open the camera on double click (as it would always activate by mistake while picking up the phone otherwise). And this way it's really quite usable to me: I'm training my muscle memory and have been successful so far. Didn't get to use the settings much yet, but using it as a shutter it's quite good. Let's see how it evolves.
