I need to know , do you need to insert the disk that comes with a new camera into your mac or will mac recognize any make or model as long as you have Iphoto installed . There are so many makes and models out there . I am downloading photos into my friends laptop using her canon A2000IS . She has iphoto . .

It'll recognise 99% of them without any extra software. What's the camera?

Most of these CDs that come with cameras just contain some really cheap, user unfriendly software. iPhoto will do everything you need.

Yes there are many cameras but they all use only one of two "over the wire" protocols. Either Pictbridge or mass storage and most cameras can be set to use either.

You don't need iPhoto, Image Capture can work also.
