Hey,

I work for a defense contractor and they don't allow camera phones. Would you guys sneak your iPhone into work because you pay soo much for the monthly service cost?

Thanks

I would if I were you. What's the big deal.

Brought to you by the millions of people looking for a job.:D

go read this, http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124027491029837401.html

is it too hard to follow a simple rule? you are the main reason IT people like me have to implement network access control - diasble access to users' CD/DVD/USB drives, set up Citrix and cripple it so people don't do stupid stuff.

i have client's who spend $500-$600 on a Dell then pay me to lock it down so it's a dumb@$$ terminal client that's worth $5. just b/c some folks can't follow the rules. /rant

I work for the DOD and it makes a big deal, if you get caught it is a Federal Offense, not only do you lose your job, you lose your clearence and a lot of bad things can happen, the Governement can impound all of your Computer Hardware at home because there is no way of telling if you took photos and then brought them home, the collect external hard drives, just about everything, not to mention you could go to prison.

However you need to check with your direct CO, there are other alternatives but only a Director can guide you.

Why not get a cheap phone sans camera to transfer your SIM card to when at work? After work, plop your SIM back into your iPhone.

Just kidding..... I was the back up photographer on one of the subs I was on. It was the BIGGEST pain in the butt going in and out of the "classified" areas.
Some of the pictures i took were freaking awesome though.

Would I? Hell NO, not in this or any other market.
i have 2 other non-camera phones i carry just for this reason.

And people like you will never be out of a job.

Is this hypothetical? Or are you asking US what YOU should do?

I am surprised you are allowed any phone. At DoE contract facilities all phones are forbidden in any area that a classified discussion can occur . Willful disobedience is guaranteed firing if not possible jail time.

AWESOME response! :D

OP: Let's think about this. Your Defense Contractor job yields how much per month? In your little cost benefit analysis did unemployment outweigh taking your cool phone to work? If so, you know the answer.

No way would I risk my job. As many others have said, buy a cheap non camera phone to carry at work.

I didn't even know they still made phones without cameras.

The world's most greenest phone, Moto W233 Renew is a phone without a camera. Came out early this year. Made completely out of recyclable plastic, I call it a hippie phone.

I've got a case like that on my daugther!

Just kidding, I don't have a daughter...but if I did...

Just came up with the solution to this!

A little bit of blu-tak gently pushed into the camera, smooth it over and paint it black like the rest of the phone.

Many sites allow phones as long as you are not in an actual SCIF. There will usually be a table or locker to leave your phone next to the visitor log before heading in. If you go into an office (outside of the SCIF) and close the door to have a classified conversation, you are supposed to turn your phone off. I usually just left my phone on my desk so that if someone needed to have a classified conversation while I was gone they could shut my phone off.

For the OP, you can get a non-camera phone on eBay for $10 + shipping and swap your SIM. That's what I did when I was at Smith & Wesson and later in DoD contracting.
