Camera randomly zooms right before taking a shot

I often use the camera control button to open camera, while holding landscape. I'll press the button to take a photo and zoom slides in, takes the shot with the click sound and then zooms back out.

I can take the shot again straight away and it will not zoom this time.

This automatic framing is unwanted, but maybe I'm holding the camera control button the wrong way? ...or just a setting?

P.S. this is not the same as switching lenses.
