Guys i am in to buying mbp 16 base model with i7 and 16 gb ram. In my country prices are very high and ı have to choose carefully or wait. What ı mean waiting is that some of my friends told me that this year 16 inch mbp going to have changes. I am not sure what kind of changes it will have, ı checked the site but cant figure out to big changes they mentioned. Just saw that it will have 1080 p webcam. I want to ask you some things before buying. If you have time to answer, it will be appreciated.

Have you ever faced any drastic problems on your 16 inch mbp?

Any keyboard or touch bar problems?

Some people mention about ghosting and freezing screen?

Cause we r mid in year, they ship mid 2020 products? I ask this cause some sites still sending 2019 products.

How is cooling? I use my laptop for only writing. And sometimes youtube. ( fade in, office etc..)

Before buying what things i should be careful about?

Some questions can be noob one but really i am not good on techs. Also if ı should wait please tell.

Regards

Mini LED screens are highly unlikely to be available with 10th gen processors. Those are already out and drop into the current machine with minimal changes.

Wait...100%. I own the 16" MBP and with external monitors, it's a "world of hurt". Freezes, kernal panics, etc too. Once new iMacs and new MBPs come out later this year, I will be replacing my 2019 16" MBP asap.

Wait. I promised myself I was going to return my 2019 16", and then 10.15.5 seemingly fixed the crash on wake problems. But it just happened again just now, and now I'm just outside the return window.

Bought my 16” at launch I am quite happy with it.

Keyboard is nice even if it took some time to adapt after having used the butterfly keyboard.

No ghosting in any of my use cases. If I really provoke it I see about the same effect as on my 2016. But who would try to read a document while madly shaking it around on the screen.

Without external equipment connected the machine runs cool and silent.

I do not believe the next version of the 16” will be a large upgrade, but as usual if you do not need a computer now wait.

Regardless I would wait for WWDC in two weeks, to hear what Apple has to say about future ARM systems.

Thanks for all replies and helps. Unfortunately in my country there s no refurbished ones. Cause prices are here very high and have only 1 shot for buying, dont wanna screw my chance. I just read that new mcb will have 10 th gen cpu, but some commensts declare that it will be much heat and power consumption. Also never understood that 13 inch have 3.7 mhz ram speed 16 inch have only 2.6..

Also what is mini led screens people mention about?

Mini LED refers to the backlight that sits behind the color filter that forms the pixels in the display.

With mini LED there are many more individual backlights compared to todays backlights. You can therefore create blacker blacks by switching of the backlight behind pixels instead of just trying to block light from a full intensity backlight.

In short, blacker blacks and increased dynamic range.

I would wait at this point. The 16" has lots of issues according to people.
I bought a refurbished one and while I have no issues I'm simply thinking of returning it (just in case stuff develops after return period) and waiting for a refresh.

I just got a refurbished 2.4 GHz i9, 32GB, 1TB, 5300M 16" and I love it. I've only had it since Sunday and I got a panic attack the day of. But after installing the most recent update I have not gotten another one. I'm using it while docked (clamshell mode) attached to two 4K monitors. To keep it quiet, I disable turbo boost (Turbo Boost Switcher Pro) when I don't need the extra power (e.g., not compiling or doing anything that needs the extra power). The original expected delivery date was suppose to be today (Wednesday) which would have allowed me to return it after WWDC event but now I won't be able to. I got it to replace my late 2015 5K iMac / 2018 13" MBP setup and it's so much faster and I love the keyboard. Since I bought it refurbished, I decided to keep it (due to the $500+ in savings). Even when the new (if they're updating them this June) are released, it'll probably be a couple of months (2-3) until they hit Apple's refurbished store.

How is the screen compared to your iMac? Are you noticing any ghosting when scrolling through text? Apparently the pixel response rate of the display is slow making things blurry when in motion. Apple stores where I am are still closed because of covid so I can’t look at the display myself.

The screen is great but the 5K iMac has a superior screen. Yes the 16" does have ghosting but I'm not mistaken that's been an issue with Macbooks for a while.

Thanks man, guess I’ll have to hold off until the stores open and I can test it in person. I recently sold my 10 year old MBA so haven’t experienced any ghosting first hand.

Based on discussion in the AMD GPU forum the high VRAM clock leading to 18W is dependent on
  1. monitor type
  2. refresh rate
  3. type of connection
It may be helpful to always include this information.

So... I just put my MBP to sleep while docked to go to bed. I forgot something in the office and as I entered I saw the Apple logo on my external monitor (obviously kernel panic) so I remove the TB3 cable from my dock so that I can log in and shutdown but the MBP froze... 🤷‍♂️

Definitely wait. It's about 3-4 months away from the next model if you go on averages, but that is just a guide. It could be sooner or later than that.

The possibility of a better screen is worth waiting for. Ghosting is the main issue with the 16" for me. Most other issues seem to be resolving themselves, but ghosting can't be fixed with software.

One interesting thing is that because of the decreased bezel, the dimensions are only a little more than an inch bigger than the 13" rMBP (early 2015) I already have.

Again, want, but don't need. $2099 at Best Buy again.

In a year and a half, when the 2020 models are mid-cycle and a new litany of complaints have flooded these forums, you'll be scrolling through the refurb site wondering the same thing...

I've had mine for a week. Absolutely love it. It ain't perfect but it sure is sweet.
