Google has failed me. Is it possible for an iphone with no data plan and only wifi (I guess this might also apply to a touch) to share the 3G connection of a nearby iphone with 3G?

[iphone, only wifi] ---> [iphone, with 3G] ---> i n t e r n e t

I understand a laptop can share the 3G connection with "tethering" but I'm not clear whether a wifi-only iphone can. Is it possible, in practice or even in theory?

Another solution is to get that Verizon mobile hotspot thing and not have a data plan on either phone. Problem being there is no real way to drop the data plan on new iPhones.

Verizon MyFi and I think Sprint carries the MyFi as well. You can also get a Broadband card and share it's connection with the iPhone through your Mac.

Ooops! Sorry about the MyFi / MyWi confusion. Thought it was a typo in darngooddesign's post. I obviously got it wrong.
Apologies. 😱

It's all good. I just tried the MyWi and it too works PERFECT! That is an amazing app right there.
