I know recently there was a thread about CPU tray between the years.

How can I ID a mainboard if its 2012 model only?

I'm still in search for a 2012 model for cheap, not a 2010.

I would very much appreciate it if one of the resident experts could offer some insight in respect of backplane compatibility - specifically, are there any known issues to replacing a 2010 (or 2012) 5,1 backplane with a 2009 model. Research to date reveals that (1) they are physically identical and (2) the part number is the same for [5,1] 2010-2012 models but NOT THE SAME as the [4,1].
As the OP notes - there is documentation regarding the interchangeability of CPU trays but scant information on risks, restrictions or known issues associated with swapping/replacing backplanes. Please offer insights in to your own experience if "you've been there before"

2010 and 2012 backplanes and trays are the same, the model year is showed based on the serial number only.

I’m looking to purchase a 2012 backplane to replace my 2010.

Unlike many here I feel true 2010 will loose compatibility before a true 2012.

Buy whatever you want, but it’s just the serial and I can change it easily.
