it would be kind of cool to see how hard we could push this cpu if we had a big old heatsink on it. back when i still built computers i recall heatsinks that had to be 1 pound and had a fan that sounds like a dang jet

Having a big heatsink and fan attached to the back of an overclocked iPad might be a fun experiment but not sure it would be very practical 😂
Id love that i like lots of computing power . but i also like my powerbill to stay low. my last desktop used like 250 watts. this ipad has more power and onky uses 11 watts or so

I believe it’s a placeholder. Apple chips in the recent years have been named A1, A2 etc.

My understanding is that Apple's A-series SoC for iPad/iPhone are great in quick bursts, but not so great for holding that performance for long-running processes. The peak performance is way up there and well enough for a desktop/laptop, but Apple will need to make some modifications to make it run as well for longer periods of time without the big dips.
Like someone said above... the rumor is that Apple is working on ARM-based CPUs for future Macs. So, we're sure to see what they've done. If true, it's very likely a variant of their A-series SoC. I could definitely see this used in Macbook Air. It'll be interesting to see the GPU options in something like a MacBook Pro, Mac mini or iMac.
