Can a full hard drive swipe & full system restore be harmful?

I was just wondering if a full system restore can be harmful or if it's good to do every once in a while to get that "fresh" computer feeling. I just re-installed OSX and everything feels like new but was just wondering if this is bad for the hard drive or something.

    Thanks!

alright, it may be somewhat unnecessary but can it be in any way useful?

Formatting? Well, it's a good way to discover for sure if issues are hardware- or software-based, and to restore a corrupted system. Otherwise, no. There is usually no need to reinstall the OS.

If you're having software problems that you can't correct, I guess it could be helpful. Otherwise, there's nothing to gain from it.
